MONITOR DESCRIPTION

This DTC is designed to detect a deviation in the output characteristics of a pressure sensor.

The pressure of the canister pressure sensor and manifold absolute pressure sensor is monitored 50 minutes after the power switch is turned off. If there is a difference in the pressures, the MIL is illuminated (2 trip detection logic).

Tech Tips

Correct judgment may not be possible when the altitude is 4000 m (13124 ft) or higher.

CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN

  1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

  2. Turn the power switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on.

  3. Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure).

  4. Put the engine in inspection mode (maintenance mode) Click here [A].

  5. Start the engine and Idle for 10 seconds.

  6. Turn the power switch off.

  7. Leave the power switch off for 55 minutes [B].

  8. Turn the power switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on.

  9. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes [C].

  10. Read the pending DTCs.

    Tech Tips

    • If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.

    • If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.

  11. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All Readiness.

  12. Input the DTC: P106A.

  13. Check the DTC judgment result.

    INCOMPLETE
    • DTC judgment not completed

    • Perform driving pattern after confirming DTC enabling conditions

    N/A
    • Unable to perform DTC judgment

    • Number of DTCs which do not fulfill DTC preconditions has reached ECU memory limit

    Tech Tips

    • If the judgment result shows NORMAL, the system is normal.

    • If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.

    • If the judgment result shows INCOMPLETE or N/A, perform steps [A] through [C] again.

  14. If no pending DTC is output, perform a universal trip and check for permanent DTCs Click here.

    Tech Tips

    • If a permanent DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.

    • If no permanent DTC is output, the system is normal.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Tech Tips

  • Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

  • Refer to "Data List / Active Test" [Vapor Pressure Pump and MAP] Click here.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P106A)

    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).

    3. Turn the Techstream on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

    5. Read the DTCs.

      Result Proceed to
      DTC P106A is output A
DTC P106A and other DTCs are output B

      Tech Tips

If any DTCs other than P106A are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (VAPOR PRESSURE PUMP AND MAP)

    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).

    3. Turn the Techstream on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Primary / Vapor Pressure Pump and MAP.

    5. Compare the Vapor Pressure Pump and MAP data from the Data List with day's atmospheric pressure*.

      Tech Tips

      • *: Standard atmospheric pressure is 101 kPa(abs) [760 mmHg(abs)]. For every 100 m (328 ft) increase in altitude, pressure drops by 1 kPa (7.5 mmHg). The pressure also varies due to the weather (high atmospheric pressure, low atmospheric pressure).

      • Also, check "Atmosphere Pressure" in the Data List.

      • If you do not know the atmospheric pressure refer to the Vapor Pressure Pump value of other vehicles in the workshop and check the difference in pressure.

      Result
      Result Proceed to
If the Vapor Pressure Pump value differs from the atmospheric pressure by 3.5 kPa(gauge) [26.254 mmHg(gauge)] or higher A
If the MAP value differs from the atmospheric pressure by 3.5 kPa(gauge) [26.254 mmHg(gauge)] or higher B
