STEERING PAD ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

CAUTION:

Be sure to follow the correct removal and installation procedures of the steering pad.


  1. INSPECT STEERING PAD (Vehicle not Involved in Collision)


    1. Perform a diagnostic system check Click here.

    2. Visually check for defects with the steering pad installed on the vehicle.

      Tech Tips

      The defects are as follows:


      • Cuts on the surface or in the grooves

      • Small cracks on the surface or in the grooves

      • Significant discoloration on the surface or in the grooves

      OK
      No defects are found.

      If any defects are found, replace the steering pad with a new one.

  2. INSPECT STEERING PAD (Vehicle Involved in Collision and Airbag has not Deployed)


    1. Perform a diagnostic system check Click here.

    2. Visually check for defects with the steering pad removed from the vehicle.

      Tech Tips

      The defects are as follows:


      • Cuts on the surface or in the grooves

      • Small cracks on the surface or in the grooves

      • Significant discoloration on the surface or in the grooves

      • Cracks or other damage to the connector

      • Deformation of the steering wheel assembly

      • Deformation of the horn button sub-assembly of the steering pad

      • Interference or uneven clearance between the steering pad and steering wheel assembly when the new steering pad is installed on the steering wheel assembly

      OK
      No defects are found.

      If any defects are found, replace the steering pad or steering wheel assembly with a new one.
