STEERING LOCK SYSTEM PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE

  • Use the table below to help determine the cause of problem symptoms. If multiple suspected areas are listed, the potential causes of the symptoms are listed in order of probability in the "Suspected Area" column of the table. Check each symptom by checking the suspected areas in the order they are listed. Replace parts as necessary.

  • Inspect the fuses and relays related to this system before inspecting the suspected areas below.

Steering wheel cannot be unlocked (the engine cannot be started). Check for DTCs in the smart entry and start system (for start function).

Check that the Lock/Unlock Receive item in the Data List of the certification ECU displays YES within 10 seconds after starting the engine. (If it displays NO, see "No steering unlock command" in this table.)

With the engine switch off and the shift lever in P, open and close the driver door. After that, check that the Lock/Unlock Receive item in the Data List of the certification ECU displays YES within 10 seconds. (If it displays NO, see "No steering lock command" in this table.)

Check the Shift P Signal item in the Data List of the power management control ECU and confirm that the shift signal is normal.

Check whether the steering wheel is locked or unlocked. (If it is locked, see "Steering wheel cannot be unlocked" in the steering lock function table.) -
Check the output from the SLP1 terminal of the steering lock ECU (steering lock actuator assembly).

Replace the power management control ECU.
