PARKING BRAKE CABLE INSTALLATION


  1. INSTALL NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY


    1. Install the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly with the bolt and 4 nuts.

      5.4 N*m  { 55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf }
      Nut (B)
      6.0 N*m  { 61 kgf*cm, 53 in.*lbf }
      Bolt
      6.0 N*m  { 61 kgf*cm, 53 in.*lbf }
    2. A01EM6W

      Install the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly to the backing plate with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      8.0 N*m  { 82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf }
  2. INSTALL NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

    Tech Tips

    Use the same procedure as for the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly.

  3. INSTALL NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY WITH PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER

  4. INSTALL REAR WHEEL

    Torque:
    103 N*m  { 1050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf }
  5. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE EQUALIZER


    1. A01ELWOE01

      Connect the No. 2 parking brake cable assembly and No. 3 parking brake cable assembly to the parking brake equalizer to install it.

      Note

      The slits of the parking brake equalizer face upward.

  6. INSTALL NO. 4 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY


    1. A01EKAB

      Install the No. 4 parking brake cable assembly with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      21 N*m  { 214 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf }

      Connect the No. 4 parking brake cable assembly to the parking brake equalizer as shown in the illustration.

    3. A01EJ09

      Slide the rubber boot to engage it as shown in the illustration.

  7. INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY


    1. Pass the No. 1 parking brake cable assembly through the parking brake pedal assembly.

      Install a new clip to the No. 1 parking brake cable assembly.

    3. A01EKT3

      Depress the parking brake pedal.

    4. A01EKWE

      Bend the parking brake pedal claw to hold the No. 1 parking brake cable assembly.

    5. Release the parking brake pedal.

  8. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE PEDAL ASSEMBLY

  9. BED IN PARKING BRAKE SHOES TO DISCS


    1. Drive the vehicle at about 50 km/h (31 mph) on a safe, level and dry road.

    2. Depress the parking brake pedal with 150 N (15 kgf, 33.7 lbf) of force.

    3. Drive the vehicle for about 400 m (0.25 mile) in this condition.

    4. Repeat this procedure 3 times.

      Note

      Set a 5-minute interval between each procedure to prevent the brake assembly from overheating.

  10. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE SHOE CLEARANCE AND PARKING BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL


    1. Completely release the parking brake pedal.

      *1 No. 1 wire adjusting nut
      *2 Lock nut

      Loosen the lock nut and No. 1 wire adjusting nut to completely release the parking brake cable.

    3. Remove the rear wheel.

    4. Temporarily install the 5 hub nuts.

    5. Remove the shoe adjusting hole plug.

      Turn the shoe adjuster and expand the shoe until the disc locks.

    7. Turn and contract the shoe adjuster until the disc can rotate smoothly.

      Standard
      Returns 8 notches.
    8. Check that there is no brake drag against the shoe.

    9. Install the shoe adjusting hole plug.

    10. Turn the adjusting nut until the parking brake pedal travel is corrected to be within the specified range.

      Parking brake pedal travel
      4 to 6 notches at 300 N (31 kgf, 67.5 lbf)
    11. Using a wrench or an equivalent tool, hold the adjusting nut and tighten the lock nut.

      Torque:
      5.4 N*m  { 55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf }
    12. Operate the parking brake pedal 3 to 4 times, and check the parking brake pedal travel.

    13. Check that there is no brake drag against the shoe.

    14. Remove the 5 hub nuts.

    15. Install the rear wheel.

      Torque:
      103 N*m  { 1050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf }
  11. INSPECT BRAKE WARNING LIGHT


    1. When operating the parking brake pedal, check that the brake warning light illuminates.

      Standard
      The brake warning light always illuminates at the first notch.
