Before disassembly, clean the outside of the differential assembly and remove any sand or mud to prevent it from entering the inside of the assembly during disassembly and installation.
When removing an installed part made of light alloy such as the differential side bearing retainer, tap it off with a brass bar and a hammer. Do not attempt to pry it off with a screwdriver.
Always arrange disassembled parts in order and protect them from dust.
Before installation, thoroughly clean and dry each part and then apply Toyota Genuine Differential gear oil LT SAE 75W-85 API GL-5 or equivalent to them. Do not use alkaline cleaner for aluminum or rubber parts and rear differential case bolts. Also, do not clean rubber parts such as oil seals with non-residue solvent.
Coat sliding surfaces and rotating parts with Toyota Genuine Differential gear oil LT SAE 75W-85 API GL-5 or equivalent.
When holding a part in a vise, be sure to place aluminum plates between the part and vise. Do not put it directly in the vise.
Do not damage the sealing surfaces of the case. Such damage may cause oil leakage.
Do not add oil within 1 hour or allow rapid acceleration or deceleration within 12 hours of installing sealed parts.
Damage to surfaces in contact with an oil seal or gasket may cause oil leakage.
When press-fitting an oil seal, do not damage the oil seal lip or outside periphery.
When replacing a bearing, replace the inner and outer races as a set.
When replacing a hypoid gear, replace the ring gear and drive pinion as a set.
Replace any damaged or deformed plate washers.
Before applying seal packing, completely remove any old seal packing remaining on the components using a non-residue solvent.
New bearings are coated with anti-rust oil. If using new bearings, do not wash it off.
