POWER TRUNK LID SYSTEM SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

  1. GENERAL

    • The luggage compartment door can be opened by pressing the luggage door opening switch of the instrument panel, the luggage door opening switch of the rear license garnish or the luggage compartment door opener switch of the key.

    • In addition, a luggage compartment door closer switch is installed on the inner side of the luggage compartment door. By using this switch, the luggage compartment door can be closed automatically.

    • The luggage closer motor (power trunk lid control ECU) is installed near the luggage compartment door hinge LH. The luggage closer motor (power trunk lid control ECU) opens and closes the luggage compartment door.

    • This system is controlled by the luggage closer motor (power trunk lid control ECU).

  2. FUNCTION OF MAIN COMPONENTS

    Components Function
Power trunk lid control ECU Controls the power trunk lid system in accordance with the signals received from the switches and ECUs.
Power trunk opener and closer motor Opens and closes the luggage compartment door when actuated by the power trunk lid control ECU.
Magnetic clutch Transmits the rotation of the power trunk opener and closer motor to the driven gear.
Hall IC Detects the luggage compartment door position and the opening and closing speed of the luggage compartment door.
    Luggage compartment door closer
    • The luggage compartment door closer provides both the opener and closer functions. In accordance with the signals received from the switches, the luggage compartment door closer automatically closes the luggage compartment door that is ajar to the fully closed state. This is accomplished by actuating the closer motor to push and turn the latch in order to pull the striker in.

    • Upon receiving the open signals from the switches, the system actuates the motor to disengage the latch from the link mechanism in order to free the latch. As a result, the striker disengages from the latch, enabling the luggage compartment door to open.

Luggage closer motor Locks and unlocks the latch of the luggage compartment door closer when actuated by the power trunk lid control ECU.

    • Striker switch

    • Courtesy switch

Detects whether the luggage compartment door is opened or closed. These switches turn ON when the luggage compartment door is opened or ajar and OFF when the luggage compartment door is closed.
Closer motor position switch Detects the initial (neutral) position of the driven gear of the closer motor. The switch is off when the luggage compartment door closer operates to the open side, and on when it operates to the closed side.
Pawl switch Detects the pawl switch condition.
Half-latch switch Detects the ajar position of the latch, turns on in the open latch condition.
Warning buzzer The buzzer sounds twice during the luggage compartment door automatic close operation.
Luggage door opening cancel switch Setting this switch to the OFF condition prohibits the open operation.
    Luggage door opening switch
    • Transmits a luggage compartment door OPEN signal to power trunk lid control ECU.

    • If the luggage door opening switch is pressed during the opening operation, the opening operation is stopped. If pressed during the closing operation, the operation is reversed.

    Luggage compartment door closer switch
    • Transmits a luggage compartment door CLOSE signal to power trunk lid control ECU.

    • If the luggage compartment door closer switch is pressed during the opening operation, the opening operation is stopped. If pressed during the closing operation, the operation is reversed.

    Key
    • The luggage compartment door opens when the luggage compartment door opener switch on the key is pressed outside of the vehicle.

    • If the luggage compartment door opener switch on the key is pressed during the opening operation, the opening operation is stopped. If pressed during the closing operation, the operation is reversed.

    Luggage electrical key switch
    • When the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is held, and the luggage electrical key switch is pressed, the luggage compartment door automatically opens.

    • When all the doors are unlocked, the luggage compartment door can be opened by pressing the luggage electrical key switch even if the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is not being carried.

    • If the luggage electrical key switch is pressed during the opening operation, the opening operation is stopped. If pressed during the closing operation, the operation is reversed.

No. 1 meter ECU sub-assembly The combination meter transmits the vehicle speed signal to the power trunk lid control ECU via the CAN.
Hybrid vehicle control ECU The hybrid vehicle control ECU transmits the shift position P signal to the power trunk lid control ECU via the CAN.
  3. 2-STEP CLOSER OPERATION

In order to notify the user that the closer operation will begin and to prevent a person's fingers from being pinched, the closer operation stops momentarily after activation to provide time to move your hands away from the luggage compartment door (the system attempts to leave a space of 9 mm (0.354 in.) or more when stopping momentarily).

    1. The following operations are related to the 2-step closer operation:

      1. When the pawl switch (PAWL) turns off (the closer motor is in the half-latch position) or when the half-latch switch (HALF) turns off, the closer motor is activated.

        Tech Tips

There is a delay time from when the switch status is recognized until the closer motor is activated. The delay time is 500 milliseconds when the luggage compartment door is closed by hand and 10 milliseconds when a power trunk lid operation is performed. The delay time count is continuous until the closer motor activates.

      2. When the pawl switch (PAWL) turns from off to on (the transition from *1 to *2 in the illustration), there is a 1 second momentary stop.

      3. When the position switch (LOPN) turns off after the closer motor reactivates, the closer motor stops (close completion).

      4. If the pawl switch (PAWL) is on (off is skipped) and the half-latch switch (HALF) is off, the closer motor does not stop momentarily after activation and continues operating until the luggage compartment door is completely closed.

      5. If the luggage compartment door is closed during the delay time (the time before the pawl switch (PAWL) turns off after the pawl switch (PAWL) turns on and the half-latch switch turns off), there is a momentary stop when the pawl switch (PAWL) turns on after the closer motor activates.

      6. Any other operations not described above operate in the same way as during normal operation.
