INSPECT PAD LINING THICKNESS
Using a ruler, measure the pad lining thickness.
Standard thickness
---
9.75 mm (0.384 in.)
Minimum thickness
---
1.0 mm (0.0394 in.)
If the pad lining thickness is less than the minimum, replace the pad.
Note
Be sure to inspect the front disc when replacing the brake pads with new ones.
INSPECT FRONT DISC BRAKE ANTI-RATTLE SPRING
Make sure that the front disc brake anti-rattle spring has sufficient rebound, no deformation, no cracks or wear, and that all rust and dirt are cleaned off. If necessary, replace the front disc brake anti-rattle spring.
INSPECT DISC THICKNESS
Using a micrometer, measure the disc thickness as shown in the illustration.
Standard thickness
---
36.0 mm (1.42 in.)
Minimum thickness
---
33.0 mm (1.30 in.)
If the disc thickness is less than the minimum, replace the disc.
INSPECT DISC RUNOUT
Fix the disc in place with the 5 hub nuts.
Using a dial indicator, measure the disc runout 10 mm (0.349 in.) away from the outer edge of the front disc.
Tech Tips
Perform this procedure with the steering wheel turned. When the steering wheel is not turned, the dial indicator cannot reach the disc.
Maximum disc runout
---
0.04 mm (0.00157 in.)
If the runout exceeds the maximum value, change the installation positions of the disc and axle so that the runout will become minimal. If the runout exceeds the maximum even when the installation positions are changed, check the bearing looseness Click here and axle hub runout Click here. If the bearing play and the axle hub runout are normal, and if the disc thickness is not within the specified range, grind the disc. If the disc thickness is less than the minimum, replace the disc.
Remove the front disc.
