FRONT UPPER SUSPENSION ARM INSTALLATION

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.

  • The procedures listed below are for the LH side.

  • A bolt without a torque specification is shown in the standard bolt chart Click here.


  1. TEMPORARILY INSTALL FRONT NO. 1 SUSPENSION UPPER ARM ASSEMBLY LH


    1. A01H0NJ

      Insert the bolt as shown in the illustration. Then temporarily install the front No. 1 suspension upper arm assembly LH to the inner No. 1 arm attachment plate LH with the nut.

  2. TEMPORARILY INSTALL FRONT NO. 2 SUSPENSION UPPER ARM ASSEMBLY LH


    1. A01H16C

      Insert the bolt as shown in the illustration. Then temporarily install the front No. 2 suspension upper arm assembly LH to the inner No. 2 arm attachment plate LH with the nut.

  3. INSTALL INNER NO. 1 ARM ATTACHMENT PLATE LH


    1. A01H21TE01

      Install the inner No. 1 arm attachment plate LH and spacers with the 3 bolts.

      Torque:
      32 N*m  { 326 kgf*cm, 24 ft.*lbf }

  4. INSTALL INNER NO. 2 ARM ATTACHMENT PLATE LH

      Install the inner No. 2 arm attachment plate LH and spacer with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      32 N*m  { 326 kgf*cm, 24 ft.*lbf }

  5. INSTALL FRONT PNEUMATIC CYLINDER O-RING LH

    Tech Tips

    It is unnecessary to perform the following procedures if the pneumatic cylinder with shock absorber has been replaced with a new one.


    1. Lightly coat 2 new O-rings with MP grease.

      Install the 2 new O-rings and a new plate to a straight tube or equivalent, as shown in the illustration.

    3. A01GXWV

      Insert the tube end with the 2 O-rings and plate into the pneumatic cylinder with front shock absorber LH. Then, lightly push in the O-rings and plate with a thick piece of paper.

    4. While holding the O-rings and plate in place with the paper, slowly pull out the tube.

    5. A01H0ZJE01

      Install a new tube connector.

      Note

      Push in the tube connector until a "click" sound is heard.

  6. INSTALL FRONT PNEUMATIC SHOCK ABSORBER WITH CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH

    Note

    When installing a new pneumatic cylinder with front shock absorber assembly LH:

    Do not remove the attachment until the height control tube is installed.


    1. A01H143E01

      When reusing the pneumatic cylinder with front shock absorber assembly LH:

      Align the matchmarks on the front suspension support assembly and pneumatic cylinder chamber.

    2. A01H0MU

      Install the pneumatic cylinder with front shock absorber assembly LH on the vehicle by installing the 3 nuts on the suspension support side.

      Torque:
      67 N*m  { 683 kgf*cm, 49 ft.*lbf }

  7. INSTALL ABSORBER CONTROL ACTUATOR


    1. A01GWH8E01

      Check that the control rod of the pneumatic cylinder with front shock absorber assembly LH is in the position shown in the illustration.

      Note

      If the control rod is not in the position shown in the illustration, turn the control rod to adjust the position and install the absorber control actuator.

    2. A01GWG3

      Install the absorber control actuator to the actuator support bracket. Turn the actuator clockwise approximately 40° until a click is felt.

      Note

      Do not excessively turn the actuator.

  8. INSTALL FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER CAP LH


    1. Connect the connector to the shock absorber control actuator.

    2. A01GZRU

      Install the shock absorber cap with the 3 nuts.

      Torque:
      20 N*m  { 204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf }

  9. INSTALL ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH


    1. Install the engine room side cover LH with the 5 clips.

  10. INSTALL AIR CLEANER INLET COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. A01GWDEE01

      Attach the 4 clips labeled B.

      Note


      • Make sure the clips are attached securely.

      • Attaching the clips forcefully or hitting the top of the clips may damage them.

    2. Install the air cleaner inlet cover sub-assembly with the 5 clips labeled A.

  11. TEMPORARILY INSTALL LOWER FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY LH


    1. Install the lower front shock absorber bracket sub-assembly LH to the front No. 1 suspension lower arm LH.

    2. A01GXIK

      Align the protrusion of the front shock absorber upper bracket plate with the cutout of the lower front shock absorber bracket sub-assembly LH, and temporarily install the nut.

    3. A01H1J9

      Install the skid control sensor wire to the pneumatic cylinder with front shock absorber assembly LH with the bolt.

      Note


      • Do not twist the skid control sensor wire.

      • When installing the bolt, do not deform the pneumatic cylinder with front shock absorber assembly LH.

  12. CONNECT NO. 4 HEIGHT CONTROL TUBE


    1. A01GXL9E01

      When installing a new pneumatic cylinder with front shock absorber assembly LH:

      Remove the attachment.

    2. Connect the No. 4 height control tube to the cylinder.

    3. Connect the No. 1 tube connector.

  13. REPAIR AIR CONNECTOR CLIP HOLDER


    1. A01GXHQE01

      Install the air connector clip holder to the No. 1 tube connector.

  14. INSTALL FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY LH


    1. A01H0X2

      Install the front stabilizer link with the 2 nuts.

      Torque:
      85 N*m  { 867 kgf*cm, 63 ft.*lbf }

      Tech Tips

      If the ball joint turns together with the nut, use a 6 mm hexagon wrench to hold the stud bolt.

  15. CONNECT FRONT HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY LH


    1. A01GZTI

      Install the bracket of the front height control sensor LH to the front No. 1 suspension lower arm LH with the bolt.

      Torque:
      5.4 N*m  { 55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf }

  16. INSTALL STEERING KNUCKLE SUB-ASSEMBLY LH


    1. Connect the splines of the steering knuckle LH and drive shaft assembly.

    2. A01H1LF

      Install the steering knuckle to the front lower ball joint with the 3 bolts.

      Torque:
      113 N*m  { 1152 kgf*cm, 83 ft.*lbf }

  17. CONNECT FRONT NO. 1 SUSPENSION UPPER ARM ASSEMBLY LH


    1. A01H061

      Install the steering knuckle to the front No. 1 suspension upper arm with the nut.

      Torque:
      60 N*m  { 612 kgf*cm, 44 ft.*lbf }

    2. Install new clips.

      Note

      If it is necessary to align the holes for the clips after installing the nuts, the nuts can be tightened up to 60° more.

  18. CONNECT FRONT NO. 2 SUSPENSION UPPER ARM ASSEMBLY LH


    1. A01H1TW

      Install the steering knuckle to the front No. 2 suspension upper arm with the nut.

      Torque:
      60 N*m  { 612 kgf*cm, 44 ft.*lbf }

    2. Install new clips.

      Note

      If it is necessary to align the holes for the clips after installing the nuts, the nuts can be tightened up to 60° more.

  19. CONNECT TIE ROD ASSEMBLY LH


    1. A01GWC8

      Connect the tie rod to the steering knuckle with the nut.

      Torque:
      60 N*m  { 612 kgf*cm, 44 ft.*lbf }

    2. Install new clips.

      Note

      If it is necessary to align the holes for the clips after installing the nuts, the nuts can be tightened up to 60° more.

  20. INSTALL FRONT SPEED SENSOR LH


    1. A01GZAI

      Install the speed sensor to the steering knuckle with the bolt.

      Torque:
      8.5 N*m  { 87 kgf*cm, 75 in.*lbf }

      Note


      • Do not damage the tip of the speed sensor.

      • Do not allow foreign matter to contact the tip or installation area of the speed sensor.

  21. CONNECT SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE


    1. A01GZ56

      Connect the front speed sensor connector.

    2. Install the sensor clamp to the steering knuckle LH with the bolt.

      Torque:
      8.5 N*m  { 87 kgf*cm, 75 in.*lbf }

      Note

      Do not twist the skid control sensor wire.

  22. INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE DUST COVER LH


    1. A01H0M4

      Install the front disc brake dust cover with the 4 bolts.

      Torque:
      8.0 N*m  { 82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf }

  23. INSTALL FRONT DISC

    A01H1ODE01

    Note

    Be sure to check the identification mark when installing the disc.

    1. Align the matchmarks and install the front disc.

      Note

      When replacing the front disc with a new one, select the installation position where the front disc has minimum runout.

  24. CONNECT FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY LH


    1. A01H03H

      Install the front disc brake caliper to the steering knuckle with 2 new bolts.

      Torque:
      135 N*m  { 1377 kgf*cm, 100 ft.*lbf }

      Note


      • Do not twist the flexible hose.

      • Make sure the threaded parts are free from foreign matter and are not damaged.

      • Be careful not to overtighten the bolts, as the steering knuckle is made of aluminum.

    2. A01H20M

      Connect the flexible hose to the steering knuckle with the bolt.

      Torque:
      20 N*m  { 204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf }

  25. INSTALL FRONT AXLE SHAFT NUT LH


    1. Clean the threaded parts on the drive shaft and axle shaft nut using a non-residue solvent.

      Note


      • Be sure to perform this work for a new drive shaft.

      • Keep the threaded parts free of oil and foreign objects.

    2. Using a 30 mm socket wrench, install a new axle shaft nut.

      Torque:
      294 N*m  { 2998 kgf*cm, 217 ft.*lbf }
    3. A01H1LRE01

      Using a chisel and hammer, stake the front axle shaft nut.

  26. CONNECT CABLE TO AUXILIARY BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL

    Note

    When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Click here.

  27. INSTALL BATTERY SERVICE HOLE COVER LH

  28. STABILIZE SUSPENSION


    1. Install the front wheels.

      Torque:
      140 N*m  { 1428 kgf*cm, 103 ft.*lbf }

    2. Lower the vehicle and start the engine. Then fill the pneumatic cylinder with front shock absorber assembly LH with air.

      Tech Tips

      If the vehicle height is not restored within 2 minutes, stop the engine and then start the engine again.

    3. Bounce the vehicle up and down several times to stabilize the front suspension.

    4. Remove the front wheels.

      Note

      Do not turn the power switch ON (IG).

      Jack up the front suspension lower arm with a wooden block between the jack and front suspension lower arm. Apply a load to the front suspension so that the front suspension lower arm is horizontal.

  29. TIGHTEN FRONT NO. 1 SUSPENSION UPPER ARM ASSEMBLY LH


    1. A01GZV3

      Tighten the installation nut of the front No. 1 suspension upper arm assembly LH.

      Torque:
      50 N*m  { 510 kgf*cm, 37 ft.*lbf }

  30. TIGHTEN FRONT NO. 2 SUSPENSION UPPER ARM ASSEMBLY LH


    1. A01H0B0

      Tighten the installation nut of the front No. 2 suspension upper arm assembly LH.

      Torque:
      50 N*m  { 510 kgf*cm, 37 ft.*lbf }

  31. TIGHTEN LOWER FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

    A01GXU3

    1. Tighten the nut of the lower front shock absorber bracket.

      Torque:
      112 N*m  { 1142 kgf*cm, 83 ft.*lbf }

  32. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL

    Torque:
    140 N*m  { 1428 kgf*cm, 103 ft.*lbf }

  33. INSPECT AND ADJUST FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT
