SFI SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:P0443

DTC Code DTC Name
P0443 Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit

DESCRIPTION

To reduce HC emissions, evaporated fuel from the fuel tank is routed through the canister to the intake manifold for combustion in the cylinders.

The ECM changes the duty signal to the purge VSV so that the intake quantity of HC emissions is appropriate for the driving conditions (engine load, engine speed, vehicle speed, etc.) after the engine is warmed up.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. Freeze frame data records the engine conditions when a malfunction is detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (PURGE VSV)

    A01GZ3XE01

    1. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the purge VSV.

    2. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    3. Turn the power switch on (IG) and turn the tester ON.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Activate the VSV for Evap Control. Press the right or left button to turn the VSV ON or OFF.

    5. Check if air is sucked into the port when operating the purge VSV using the intelligent tester.

      Standard
      Tester Operation Specified Condition
VSV is ON Suction of air
VSV is OFF No suction of air

    NG
    OK
  2. CHECK ECM (PRG VOLTAGE)

    A01GX6HE17

    1. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      E1-17 (PRG) - E3-1 (E1) Power switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

    NG
    OK
  3. INSPECT PURGE VSV (OPERATION OF PURGE VSV)

    1. Inspect the purge VSV Click here.

    NG
    OK
  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PURGE VSV - ECM)

    A01GYP3E02

    1. Disconnect the purge VSV connector.

    2. Disconnect the E1 ECM connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for open)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E44-1 - E1-17 (PRG) Always Below 1 Ω
      Standard resistance (Check for short)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
E44-1 or E1-17 (PRG) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG
    OK
  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PURGE VSV - EFI FUSE)

    A01GY77E03

    1. Disconnect the purge VSV connector.

    2. Remove the EFI fuse from the engine room No. 2 relay block.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for open)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E44-2 - Relay block EFI fuse terminal 2 Always Below 1 Ω
      Standard resistance (Check for short)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
E44-2 or relay block EFI fuse terminal 2 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG
