SFI SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:P0230

DTC Code DTC Name
P0230 Fuel Pump Primary Circuit

DESCRIPTION

Based on vehicle driving conditions, the ECM operates the fuel pump. The ECM receives an engine start request signal from the hybrid vehicle control ECU. When the engine is cranked, an NE signal is sent to the ECM. When the engine is started, the ECM connects the FC circuit to the body ground, operates the circuit opening relay (C/OPN), and operates the fuel pump.

The fuel pump has a high and low speed setting. When the engine is starting or operating with a heavy load, the ECM's Tr2 turns OFF, the fuel pump relay (F/PMP) turns ON, and the fuel pump operates at the high speed setting. When the engine is idling or operating with a light load, the Tr2 turns OFF, current flows through the fuel pump resistor to the fuel pump, and the fuel pump operates at the low speed setting.

When the ECM receives an engine stop request signal from the hybrid vehicle control ECU, or when fuel cut occurs as a result of vehicle deceleration, etc., the fuel pump is stopped.

This troubleshooting procedure is based on the premise that the engine is started. If the engine is not started, proceed to the problem symptoms table Click here.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. INSPECT FUEL PUMP RELAY (F/PMP)

    1. Inspect the fuel pump relay (F/PMP) Click here.

    1. Remove the fuel pump relay (F/PMP) from the engine room No. 2 relay block.

    2. Disconnect the A14 ECM connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for open)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F/PMP relay (2) - A14-6 (FPR) Always Below 1 Ω
      Standard resistance (Check for short)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
F/PMP relay (2) or A14-6 (FPR) - Body Ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
