REPAIR INSTRUCTION INSPECTION MODE PROCEDURE


  1. INSPECTION MODE

    Tech Tips


    • The LEXUS LS600h L / LS600h engine automatically stops if the vehicle is stopped, the engine is warmed up, the HV battery is well charged. Activate inspection mode when continuous operation of the engine is required.

    • The LEXUS LS600h L / LS600h has a motor TRC function. When the wheel speed of the rear wheels exceeds that of the front wheels, the wheel speed of the rear wheels is restrained. It is necessary to activate inspection mode and deactivate the motor TRC function when turning only the rear wheels using a speedometer tester.


    1. Vehicle conditions


      1. Before activating inspection mode, turn the air conditioning OFF, start the engine with the selector lever in the P position, and check that the engine stops within several seconds after starting (engine warm up check).

      2. Activate inspection mode and inspect the vehicle. The shift position for each test is as follows:

        Test item Shift position Inspection mode
        Vehicle straight traveling test (side slip inspection) D ON or OFF
        Braking force test N ON or OFF
        Speedometer test D ON
        Exhaust gas test (idling) P ON
        Headlight test P ON or OFF

      3. Reset inspection mode immediately after completion of the inspection.

        Note

        Driving the vehicle without resetting inspection mode may damage the transmission.

    2. Special notes for speedometer test

      Note

      Do not use the speedometer tester to perform rapid starting or quick acceleration/deceleration without first setting the proper load on the vehicle. Failing to set the load may damage the transmission.


      1. Depress the accelerator pedal slowly and gradually accelerate the vehicle. Make a measurement.

      2. After the measurement, use the brake pedal to gradually decelerate the vehicle.

    3. Special note for using the chassis dynamometer


      1. Always set an appropriate load before starting the test.

    4. Activating maintenance mode (Not using the intelligent tester)


      1. Perform the following steps from (A) through (D) in 60 seconds.


        1. Turn the power switch on (IG). (Step A)

        2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal four times with the shift lever in P. (Step B)

        3. Fully depress the accelerator pedal four times with the shift lever in N. (Step C)

        4. Fully depress the accelerator pedal four times with the shift lever in P. (Step D)

        Check that "AWD Maintenance Mode" is displayed on the multi-information display.

      3. Start the engine by turning the power switch on (READY) while depressing the brake pedal.

        Tech Tips

        The idle speed in maintenance mode is approximately 1000 rpm with the shift lever in P. The engine speed increases to 1500 rpm when the accelerator pedal is depressed midway with the shift lever in P. When the accelerator pedal is depressed more than midway, or when the accelerator pedal is fully depressed, the engine speed increases to approximately 2500 rpm.

    5. Activating maintenance mode (Using the intelligent tester)


      1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

      2. Turn the power switch on (IG).

      3. Turn the intelligent tester on.

      4. Enter following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Utility / Inspection Mode / 4WD for measuring Exhaust Gas.

        Check that "AWD Maintenance Mode" is displayed on the multi-information display.

      6. Start the engine by turning the power switch on (READY) while depressing the brake pedal.

        Tech Tips

      1. Perform the following steps from (A) through (D) in 60 seconds.


        1. Turn the power switch on (IG). (Step A)

        2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal five times with the shift lever in P. (Step B)

        3. Fully depress the accelerator pedal five times with the shift lever in N. (Step C)

        4. Fully depress the accelerator pedal five times with the shift lever in P. (Step D)

        Check that "AWD Certification Mode" is displayed on the multi-information display.

      3. Start the engine by turning the power switch on (READY) while depressing the brake pedal.

    7. Activating certification mode (Using the intelligent tester)


      1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

      2. Turn the power switch on (IG).

      3. Turn the intelligent tester on.

      4. Enter following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Utility / Inspection Mode / 4WD for cutting TRC.

      5. A01GYHK

        Check that "AWD Certification Mode" is displayed on the multi-information display.

      6. Start the engine by turning the power switch on (READY) while depressing the brake pedal.

    8. Deactivating inspection mode


      1. Turn the power switch OFF.

        Note

        Driving the vehicle without deactivating inspection mode may damage the transmission.
