SPIRAL CABLE REMOVAL

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for RHD and LHD vehicles.

  • The procedure listed below is for LHD vehicles.


  1. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD

  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

    CAUTION:

    Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    Note


    • After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work Click here.

    • When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Click here.

  3. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY


    1. Remove the steering wheel assembly Click here.

  4. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER


    1. for Manual Tilt and Manual Telescopic Steering Column:


      1. Remove the lower steering column cover Click here.

    2. for Power Tilt and Power Telescopic Steering Column:


      1. Remove the lower steering column cover Click here.

  5. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER


    1. for Manual Tilt and Manual Telescopic Steering Column:


      1. Remove the upper steering column cover Click here.

    2. for Power Tilt and Power Telescopic Steering Column:


      1. Remove the upper steering column cover Click here.

  6. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Disconnect the connectors from the spiral cable sub-assembly.

      Note

      When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

    2. Detach the 3 claws and remove the spiral cable sub-assembly.

      Note


      • Do not replace the spiral cable sub-assembly when the ignition switch is ON and the battery cable is connected.

      • Do not rotate the spiral cable sub-assembly when the ignition switch is ON and the battery cable is connected.

      • Make sure the steering wheel assembly is installed and centered before rotating the steering sensor when performing steering sensor operation inspections (inspecting for abnormal noise, diagnosis inspections, etc.).

      • Do not remove the steering sensor from the spiral cable sub-assembly.
