VANE PUMP (for 5L-E) INSTALLATION


  1. INSTALL VANE PUMP ASSEMBLY

      Install the vane pump with the 2 bolts and nut.

      Torque:
      for bolt A
      48 N*m  { 489 kgf*cm, 35 ft.*lbf }
      for nut C
      64 N*m  { 653 kgf*cm, 47 ft.*lbf }

      Tech Tips

      Turn nut C while holding bolt B.

  2. INSTALL VANE PUMP PULLEY

      Using SST, install the vane pump pulley to the vane pump.

      SST
      09960-10010   ( 09962-01000, 09963-01000 )
      Torque:
      43 N*m  { 438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf }
  3. INSTALL FAN SHROUD


    1. Install the fan shroud Click here.

  4. CONNECT PRESSURE FEED TUBE ASSEMBLY


    1. Install a new gasket to the pressure feed tube.

    2. Connect the pressure feed tube to the vane pump with the union bolt.

      Torque:
      50 N*m  { 510 kgf*cm, 37 ft.*lbf }

      Tech Tips

      Make sure the stopper of the pressure feed tube touches the vane pump.

  5. CONNECT OIL RESERVOIR TO NO. 1 PUMP HOSE


    1. Connect the hose to the vane pump with the clip.

  6. INSTALL VANE PUMP V BELT


    1. Temporarily install the V belt.

    2. Using a bar, adjust the tension of the belt.

    3. Tighten the bolt and nut.

      Torque:
      Bolt
      48 N*m  { 489 kgf*cm, 35 ft.*lbf }
      Nut
      64 N*m  { 653 kgf*cm, 47 ft.*lbf }
    4. Check the tension of the V belt Click here.

  7. ADD POWER STEERING FLUID

  8. BLEED AIR FROM POWER STEERING FLUID


    1. Check the fluid level.

    2. Jack up the front of the vehicle and support it with stands.

    3. Turn the steering wheel.


      1. With the engine stopped, turn the wheel slowly from lock to lock several times.

    4. Lower the vehicle.

    5. Start the engine.


      1. Run the engine at idle for a few minutes.

    6. Turn the steering wheel.


      1. With the engine idling, turn the wheel to the left or right full lock position and keep it there for 2 to 3 seconds, and then turn the wheel to the opposite full lock position and keep it there for 2 to 3 seconds.*1

      2. Repeat *1 several times.

    7. Stop the engine.

      Check for foaming or emulsification.

      If the system has to be bled twice specifically because of foaming or emulsification, check for fluid leaks in the power steering system.

    9. Check the fluid level.
