POWER STEERING SYSTEM (for 2AR without Wireless Door Lock) ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION


  1. CHECK STEERING EFFORT (TORQUE)

    Note

    Some of these service operations may affect the SRS airbags. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing Click here.


    1. Stop the vehicle on a level, paved surface and align the wheels straight ahead.

    2. Remove the horn button assembly Click here.

    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

    4. Using a torque wrench, check that the steering wheel set nut is properly tightened.

      Torque:
      50 N*m  { 510 kgf*cm, 37 ft.*lbf }
    5. Start the engine so that the power steering is ready to operate.

    6. Turn the steering wheel 90 degrees to the right and check steering effort (torque) with the steering wheel turned. Check in the opposite direction using the same manner.

      Standard steering effort (Reference)
      6.0 N*m (61 kgf*cm, 53 in.*lbf) or less
    7. Align the front wheels facing straight ahead.

    8. Turn the ignition switch off.

    9. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

      CAUTION:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
