MONITOR DESCRIPTION

These DTCs are designed to detect opens or shorts in the camshaft timing oil control valve circuit. If the camshaft timing oil control valve duty cycle is excessively high or low while the engine is running, the ECM will illuminate the MIL and store the DTC.

The monitor for this DTC runs 5 seconds after the engine switch is turned on (IG).

CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN

  1. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and wait for 5 seconds or more.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Tip:
  • If DTC P0013 is output, check the bank 1 VVT system for the exhaust camshaft circuit.

  • Bank 1 refers to the bank that includes the No. 1 cylinder*.

*: The No. 1 cylinder is the cylinder which is farthest from the transmission.

  • If DTC P0023 is output, check the bank 2 VVT system for the exhaust camshaft circuit.

  • Bank 2 refers to the bank that does not include the No. 1 cylinder.

  • Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

CHECK FOR DTC (DTC P0013 OR P0023)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Clear the DTCs after recording the freeze frame data and DTCs.

    3. Turn the engine switch off.

    4. Start the engine and allow it to idle. Then check for DTCs.

    5. Check that P0013 or P0023 is not output.

      OK
P0013 or P0023 is not output.

CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE - ECM)

    1. Disconnect the camshaft timing oil control valve connector.

    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C26-1 - C54-56 (OE1+) Always Below 1 Ω
      C26-2 - C54-55 (OE1-) Always Below 1 Ω
      C27-1 - C54-50 (OE2+) Always Below 1 Ω
      C27-2 - C54-49 (OE2-) Always Below 1 Ω
      C26-1 or C54-56 (OE1+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      C26-2 or C54-55 (OE1-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      C27-1 or C54-50 (OE2+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      C27-2 or C54-49 (OE2-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
