OUTLINE OF THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM
The theft deterrent system will operate when somebody attempts to forcibly enter the vehicle, unlock any door or luggage compartment door or open the engine hood without using the key. This system causes the lights to light up and the horns or siren to sound in order to deter break-in and theft.
The security indicator comes on or blinks to inform the driver that the alarm is set or not set.
The system locks all doors if any door is unlocked during the time that the alarm is activated.
The main body ECU RH controls this system.
Each mode has 4 states; a disarmed state, an arming preparation state, an armed state and an alarm sounding state.
Disarmed state:
The alarm function is not operating.
The theft deterrent system is not operating.
Arming preparation state:
The time until the system goes into the armed state.
The theft deterrent system is not operating.
Armed state:
The theft deterrent system is operating.
Alarm sounding state:
The alarm function is operating.
| Alarm Method | Hazard Warning Light | Blinking |
| Interior Light | Illuminating | |
| Vehicle Horn | Sounding (approx. 0.4 second cycles) |
|
| Theft warning siren | Sounding | |
| Alarm Time | Approx. 30 sec. (Maximum 10 times) | |
Tech Tips
If any of the doors are unlocked when the key is not in the actuation area during the armed state, a forced door lock signal will be output (see Forced Door Lock Control).
FUNCTION OF MAIN COMPONENT
| Component | Function |
|---|---|
| Security indicator | Informs driver of theft deterrent system status. |
| Theft warning siren assembly | Sound when attempted brake-in or theft is detected. |
| Hazard warning lights | Blinking when attempted break-in or theft is detected. |
| Interior light | Lights up when attempted break-in or theft is detected. |
| Vehicle horns | Sounds when attempted break-in or theft is detected. |
| Door courtesy light switch | Detects door status (open or closed). |
| Door lock position switch | Detects door status (locked or unlocked). |
| Engine hood courtesy switch | Detects engine hood status (open or closed). |
| Luggage compartment door courtesy switch | Detects luggage compartment door status (open or closed). |
| Power source control ECU | Detects engine switch states (off or on (IG)). |
| Intrusion sensor | Sends a signal to the main body ECU RH to sound the alarm when detecting an intrusion. |
Tech Tips
How to determine if the vehicle is equipped with the intrusion sensor:
Check if "Intrusion Sensor ON/OFF" item can be selected by operating the satellite switch. If "Intrusion Sensor ON/OFF" item can be selected, the intrusion sensor is installed, and if not, the sensor is not installed.
ACTIVE ARMING MODE
Tech Tips
Active arming mode starts the alarm control immediately after the doors are locked.
This system activates as described in the diagram below when one of items for each condition is met.

| Condition | Item |

| Condition (1) | In the disarmed state, when the key is not in the actual area, the system state is switched if one of the following condition is met.

FORCED DOOR LOCK CONTROL
The forced door lock control prevents the vehicle from being tampered with. Immediately after a door is unlocked (alarm starts), the door is forced to lock by a forced door lock signal.
Conditions that force the doors to lock: When the key is not in the actuation area and both of the following conditions are met.
The theft deterrent system is in the alarm sounding state of active arming mode.
Any of the door is unlocked.
OPERATION OF INTRUSION SENSOR
An intrusion sensor is provided in the front interior light located in the front of the vehicle interior.
The main body ECU RH activates the intrusion sensor when the system changes from the disarmed state to the armed preparation state. If an intrusion detection signal is input from the intrusion sensor during the armed state, the ECU changes to the alarm state in order to output an alarm.
When the system is in the disarmed state, the function of the intrusion sensor can be disabled by pressing the satellite switch Click here.
The intrusion sensor may erroneously detect intrusion in the following states:
The system changes to the armed state even when any of the windows or sunroof is open. The intrusion sensor may react to objects moving outside of the vehicle when any of the windows or sunroof is open.
The intrusion sensor may react to a hanger or other objects hanging in the cabin when they drop or swing.
THEFT WARNING (SELF-POWER) SIREN
The theft warning siren assembly has an internal battery. If any of the vehicle's battery or communication lines are opened, the theft warning siren assembly detects it by itself and sounds. Although the theft warning siren assembly usually sounds by receiving a signal from the main body ECU RH.
The main body ECU RH sends an arming signal to the theft warning siren assembly while switching to the armed state, as well as sending a disarming signal to the siren while switching to the disarmed state. Additionally, the main body ECU RH can sound the theft warning siren assembly by sending an alarm signal in the alarm sounding state.
SECURITY INDICATOR OUTPUT
The main body ECU RH outputs a signal to light up the security indicator, according to the state of the theft deterrent system.
| State of Theft Deterrent System* | Security Indicator | |
|---|---|---|
| Output Signals from Main Body ECU RH | Actual Lighting Condition | |
| Disarmed state 1, 2 | OFF (Immobiliser system unset) BLINKING (Immobiliser system set) |
OFF (Immobiliser system unset) BLINKING (Immobiliser system set) |
| Arming preparation state | ON | ON |
| Armed state | BLINKING | BLINKING |
| Alarm sounding state | ON | ON |
| Time | Security Indicator |
|---|---|
| 0.2 sec. | ON |
| 1.8 sec. | OFF |
Tech Tips
When the immobiliser system is set, the security indicator blinks during both the disarmed state and the armed state, due to the output signals from the immobiliser system.
