DIFFERENTIAL OIL REPLACEMENT


  1. INSPECT DIFFERENTIAL OIL


    1. Stop the vehicle on a level place.

    2. A01602H

      Using a hexagon wrench (10 mm), remove the differential filler plug and gasket.

    3. A0161FSE05

      Check that the oil surface is within 5 mm (0.197 in.) of the bottom lip of the inner surface of the differential filler plug opening.

      Note


      • An excessively large or small amount of oil may cause trouble.

      • After adding differential oil, drive the vehicle and check the oil level.

      Tech Tips

      If necessary, fill the rear differential carrier with differential synthetic gear oil.

    4. Inspect for oil leaks if the oil level is low.

    5. Using a hexagon wrench (10 mm), install the differential filler plug with a new gasket.

      Torque:
      49 N*m  { 500 kgf*cm, 36 ft.*lbf }

  2. ADD DIFFERENTIAL OIL


    1. Using a hexagon wrench (10 mm), remove the differential filler plug and gasket.

    2. A01621S

      Add oil.

      Capacity
      1.3 to 1.4 liters (1.4 to 1.5 US qts, 1.1 to 1.2 Imp. qts)
      Oil grade
      Toyota genuine differential gear oil LX 75W-85 GL-5 or equivalent

    3. Check the oil level.

    4. Using a hexagon wrench (10 mm), install the differential filler plug with a new gasket.

      Torque:
      49 N*m  { 500 kgf*cm, 36 ft.*lbf }

      Note

      After replacing the oil, recheck the oil level after driving.
