DESCRIPTION

The air cleaner is equipped with two inlets, one of which is opened or closed by the Air Intake Control Valve (AICV). This system reduces intake noise and increases engine power at low to high engine speed range.

When the engine is operating in the low-to-mid speed range, this control operates the AICV to close one of the air cleaner inlets. When the engine speed is more than 3600 rpm the ECM turns off the VSV to open the AICV.

The following conditions are met simultaneously for 0.5 seconds or more (2 trip detection logic):


  1. Voltage of terminal AICV of the ECM is low when the VSV is OFF

  2. The engine has been started


  • Open or short in air intake control valve circuit

  • Air intake control valve

  • ECM

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE


  1. INSPECT VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE ASSEMBLY (FOR AIR INTAKE CONTROL)


    1. Inspect vacuum switching valve assembly (for air intake control valve) Click here.

  2. INSPECT VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE ASSEMBLY (POWER SOURCE OF VALVE)


    1. A015Z5LE06

      Disconnect the vacuum switching valve (for intake control valve) connector.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A60-2 - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V
    4. Reconnect the vacuum switching valve connector.

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (VALVE ASSEMBLY - ECM)


    1. A0161ZXE03

      Disconnect the vacuum switching valve (for air intake control valve) connector.

    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A60-1 (VSV for AICV) - E3-8 (AICV) Always Below 1 Ω
      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A60-1 (VSV for AICV) - E3-8 (AICV) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the vacuum switching valve connectors.

  4. INSPECT FUSE (EFI NO. 2)


    1. A0161PZE02

      Remove the EFI No. 2 fuse from the engine room No. 2 relay block.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      EFI No. 2 fuse Always Below 1 Ω
    3. Reinstall the EFI No. 2 fuse.
