SMART ENTRY AND START SYSTEM Back Door Entry Lock and Unlock Functions do not Operate

DESCRIPTION

When the back door entry lock and unlock functions do not operate, one of the following may be malfunctioning: 1) power door lock control system, or 2) outside electrical key oscillator (back door), or 3) main body ECU (instrument panel junction block), or 4) certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly).

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Note

Before performing the inspection, check that there are no problems related to "CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM" and "LIN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM".

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK POWER DOOR LOCK OPERATION

    1. When the door control switch on the master switch assembly is operated, check that the locked doors unlock Click here.

      OK
      Locked doors unlock.

    NG
    OK
  2. CHECK WAVE ENVIRONMENT

    1. A017EG8E02

Bring the electrical key transmitter near the outside electrical key oscillator (back door), and perform an entry back door open and entry lock functions check.

      Note

If the key is brought within 0.2 m (0.656 ft.) of the rear bumper, communication is not possible.

      Tech Tips

      • When the electrical key transmitter is brought near the electrical key antenna, the possibility of wave interference decreases, and it can be determined if wave interference is causing the problem symptom.

      • If the operation check is normal, the possibility of wave interference is high. Also, added vehicle components may cause wave interference. If installed, remove them and perform the operation.

      OK
      Entry functions operate normally.

    NG
    OK
  3. PERFORM KEY DIAGNOSTIC MODE INSPECTION

    1. A017EG8E01

Diagnostic mode inspection (outside electrical key oscillator (back door))

      1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

      2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

      3. Turn the tester on.

      4. Enter the following menus:

Body / Entry & Start / Key Communication Check / Overhead + Back Door.

      5. When the electrical key transmitter is held at the same height as the rear bumper upper surface and aligned with the center of the rear of the vehicle, check that the wireless door lock buzzer sounds.

        Tech Tips

If the buzzer sounds, it can be determined that the back door outside electrical key oscillator is operating normally.

        OK
        Wireless door lock buzzer sounds.

    NG
    OK
  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CERTIFICATION ECU - OUTSIDE ELECTRICAL KEY OSCILLATOR)

    1. A017DKGE02

Disconnect the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) and outside electrical key oscillator connectors.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D36-31 (CLG8) - O17-1 (CLG5) Always Below 1 Ω
      D36-32 (CG8B) - O17-2 (CLGB) Always Below 1 Ω
D36-31 (CLG8) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
D36-32 (CG8B) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG
    OK
  5. REPLACE OUTSIDE ELECTRICAL KEY OSCILLATOR

    1. Replace the outside electrical key oscillator Click here.

    NEXT
  6. CHECK OUTSIDE ELECTRICAL KEY OSCILLATOR (OPERATION)

    1. Check that the entry functions operate normally.

      OK
      Entry functions operate normally.

    NG
    OK
  7. REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU (INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK)

    1. Replace the main body ECU (instrument panel junction block).

    NEXT
  8. CHECK MAIN BODY ECU (INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK) (OPERATION)

    1. Check that the entry functions operate normally.

      OK
      Entry functions operate normally.
