STEERING GEAR (w/o VGRS) INSPECTION

  1. INSPECT TOTAL PRELOAD

    1. Temporarily install the left and right steering rack ends to prevent steering rack overstroke.

    2. A01GJSAE01

Using SST and a torque wrench, inspect the preload.

      SST
      09616-00011
      Preload (turning)
      1.5 to 2.5 N*m (15.3 to 25.5 kgf*cm, 13.3 to 22.1 in.*lbf)
If the turning torque is not as specified, replace the power steering link assembly.
  2. INSPECT TIE ROD ASSEMBLY LH

    1. Secure the tie rod LH in a vise.

    2. Install the nut to the stud bolt.

    3. Flip the ball joint back and forth 5 times or more.

    4. A01GMC1

Using a torque wrench, turn the nut continuously at a rate of 3 to 5 seconds per turn and take the torque reading on the 5th turn.

      Standard turning torque
      0.5 to 3.4 N*m (6 to 34 kgf*cm, 5 to 30 in.*lbf)

If the turning torque is not within the specified range, replace the tie rod assembly LH.

  3. INSPECT TIE ROD ASSEMBLY RH

    Tech Tips

Use the same procedures described for the LH side.
