DESCRIPTION
The ECM controls the vehicle's immobiliser system function. Immobiliser system data and the Diagnosis Trouble Codes (DTCs) can be read through the vehicle's Data Link Connector 3 (DLC3). This vehicle does not have a security indicator lamp. No indicators illuminate even when malfunctions occur in the immobiliser system. Therefore, use an intelligent tester to check and troubleshoot when there seems to be a problem with the system.
CHECK DLC3
The vehicle's ECM uses the ISO 9141-2 (Euro-OBD) / ISO 14230 (M-OBD) communication protocol. The terminal arrangement of the DLC3 complies with the ISO 15031-03 and matches the ISO 9141-2/ISO 14230 format.
| Tester Connection | Condition | Specified Condition |
|---|---|---|
| 7 (Bus + line) - 5 (Signal ground) | During transmission | Pulse generation |
| 4 (Chassis ground) - Body ground | Constant | Below 1 Ω |
| 5 (Signal ground) - Body ground | Constant | Below 1 Ω |
| 16 (B+) - Body ground | Constant | 9 to 14 V |
Tech Tips
Connect the cable of the intelligent tester to the DLC3, turn the ignition switch ON and turn the intelligent tester ON. If the tester display shows the message "Error Communication", there is a problem either with the vehicle or with the tester.
If communication is normal when the tester is connected to another vehicle, inspect the DLC3 of the original vehicle.
If communication is still impossible when the tester is connected to another vehicle, the problem may be in the tester itself. Consult the Service Department listed in the tester's instruction manual.
