POWER STEERING GEAR DISASSEMBLY


  1. FIX STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY

    1. Using SST wrapped in protective tape, secure the steering gear assembly in a vise.

      Tech Tips

      Remove and reinstall SST as many times as necessary.

  2. REMOVE TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

    1. Place matchmarks on the tie rod end sub-assembly LH and rack end.

    2. Remove the tie rod end sub-assembly LH and lock nut.

  3. REMOVE TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY RH

    Tech Tips

    Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

  4. REMOVE STEERING RACK BOOT CLIP LH


    1. Using pliers, remove the rack boot clip.

  5. REMOVE STEERING RACK BOOT CLIP RH

    Tech Tips

    Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

  6. REMOVE STEERING RACK BOOT CLAMP LH

    1. Using a screwdriver, unstake and remove the rack boot clamp LH.

      Note

      Do not damage the rack boot LH.

  7. REMOVE STEERING RACK BOOT CLAMP RH

    Tech Tips

    Perform the same procedure as for the rack boot clamp LH.

  8. REMOVE STEERING RACK BOOT LH

  9. REMOVE STEERING RACK BOOT RH

  10. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN RACK END SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. Using SST, remove the rack end sub-assembly.

      Note


      • Use SST in the correct direction, as shown in the illustration.

      • Securely hold the steering rack.

    2. A01368YE01

      Using SST, hold the steering rack LH side and remove the rack end sub-assembly.

  11. REMOVE STEERING RACK HOUSING GROMMET NO. 1

    1. Using a clip remover and screwdriver, remove the 4 No. 1 steering rack housing grommets.
