INSTALL REAR WHEEL BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY
Provisionally tighten the bleeder plug to the wheel brake cylinder, and install the bleeder plug cap.
Install the wheel brake cylinder with the bolt.
Using a union nut wrench, install the brake tube.
Note
This torque value can be obtained by using a torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 300 mm (11.8 in.) and a union nut wrench with a fulcrum length of 22 mm (0.886 in.) Click here.
This torque value is effective when the union nut wrench is parallel to a torque wrench.
APPLY HIGH TEMPERATURE GREASE
Apply high temperature grease to the shoe attached surfaces of the backing plate.
INSTALL REAR BRAKE SHOE
Using needle-nose pliers, connect the parking brake cable to the parking brake shoe lever.
Using pliers, install the rear brake shoe, pin, shoe hold down spring and shoe hold down spring cup.
INSTALL ADJUSTER
Remove the adjuster screw from the strut.
Set the adjuster nut in the appropriate position by hand.
Position the adjuster nut close to the retaining screw spring with a clearance of 1 to 2 mm in between them.
Tech Tips
The adjuster nut should not be in direct contact with the retaining screw spring. Leave 1 to 2 mm of space between the two parts since the brake clearance will be adjusted automatically.
Return the adjuster screw to the adjuster strut.
Note
The adjuster nut should be fitted into the adjuster leaf spring.
Install the adjuster.
Note
Install the adjuster in the correct orientation.
INSTALL FRONT BRAKE SHOE
Using pliers, install the front brake shoe, pin, shoe hold down spring and shoe hold down spring cup.
Using SST, install the retaining shoe spring.
Using SST, install the return shoe spring.
Using SST, install the retaining strut spring.
CHECK REAR DRUM BRAKE INSTALLATION
Check that each part is installed properly.
Note
There should be no oil or grease adhering to the friction surfaces of the shoe lining or the drum.
