CHECK BRAKE DRUM INSIDE DIAMETER
Using a brake drum gauge or equivalent, measure the inside diameter of the drum.
Standard inside diameter
---
200.0 mm (7.874 in.)
Maximum inside diameter
---
201.0 mm (7.913 in.)
If the inside diameter is greater than the maximum, replace the brake drum.
CHECK BRAKE SHOE LINING THICKNESS
Using a ruler, measure the thickness of the shoe lining.
Standard thickness
---
4.5 mm (0.177 in.)
Minimum thickness
---
1.0 mm (0.039 in.)
If the lining thickness is less than the minimum, or if there is any severe or uneven wear, replace the brake shoe.
Tech Tips
If a brake shoe needs replacing, all the brake shoes must be replaced as a set.
CHECK BRAKE DRUM AND BRAKE SHOE LINING FOR PROPER CONTACT
Apply chalk to the inside surface of the drum, then grind the brake shoe lining for proper fitting.
If the contact between the drum and the shoe lining is incorrect, repair the brake shoe using a brake shoe grinder or replace it.
Tech Tips
If a brake shoe needs replacing, all the brake shoes must be replaced as a set.
