TIRE AND WHEEL SYSTEM INSPECTION


  1. INSPECT TIRES


    1. Check the tires for wear and proper inflation pressure.

      Using a dial indicator, check the tire runout.

      1.4 mm (0.055 in.) or less
  2. ROTATE TIRES

    Tech Tips

    Rotate the tires, as shown in the illustration.

  3. INSPECT WHEEL BALANCE

    1. Check and adjust the off-the-car balance.

    2. If required, check and adjust the on-the-car balance.

      Imbalance after adjustment
      8 g (0.018 lb) or less
  4. INSPECT FRONT AXLE HUB BEARING


    1. Remove the front wheel.

    2. Remove the front disc brake caliper assembly Click here.

    3. Remove the front disc brake.

      Inspect the axle hub backlash.


      1. Using a dial indicator, check the backlash near the center of the axle hub.

        Maximum
        0.05 mm (0.0020 in.)

        Note

        If the backlash exceeds the maximum, replace the bearing.

    5. A0135SD

      Inspect the axle hub runout.


      1. Using a dial indicator, check the distortion of the surface of the axle hub.

        Maximum
        0.05 mm (0.0020 in.)

        Note

        If the runout exceeds the maximum, replace the bearing.

    6. Install the front disc brake.

    7. Install the front disc brake caliper assembly Click here.

    8. Install the front wheel.

  5. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB BEARING


    1. Remove the rear wheel.

    2. Remove the rear brake drum.

      Inspect the rear axle hub and bearing backlash.


      1. Using a dial indicator, check the backlash near the center of the rear axle hub.

        Maximum
        0.05 mm (0.0020 in.)

        Note

        If the backlash exceeds the maximum, replace the rear axle hub and bearing.

    4. A0135WY

      Inspect the rear axle hub and bearing runout.


      1. Using a dial indicator, check the distortion of the surface of the rear axle hub.

        Maximum
        0.07 mm (0.0028 in.)

        Note

        If the runout exceeds the maximum, replace the rear axle hub and bearing.

    5. Install the rear brake drum.

    6. Install the rear wheel.
