GENERATOR INSPECTION


  1. INSPECT GENERATOR REGULATOR ASSEMBLY


    1. A013840E01

      Using vernier calipers, measure the exposed brush length.

      Standard exposed length
      11.5 to 13.5 mm (0.45 to 0.53 in.)
      Minimum exposed length
      6.5 mm (0.26 in.)

      If the exposed length is less than the minimum, replace the generator regulator.

  2. INSPECT RECTIFIER HOLDER


    1. A0137HBE01

      Using an ohmmeter, check the continuity between terminals P1, P2, P3 and B, and terminals P1, P2, P3 and E.

      Standard
      When the positive and negative poles between terminals P1, P2, P3 and B are exchanged, there is continuity in one way but no continuity in the other way.
      When the positive and negative poles between terminals P1, P2, P3 and E are exchanged, there is continuity in one way but no continuity in the other way.

      If the continuity is not as specified, replace the generator.

  3. INSPECT GENERATOR ROTOR ASSEMBLY


    1. A0137I4E01

      Check the generator rotor open circuit.


      1. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the slip rings.

        Standard resistance
        for Standard
        2.6 to 3.0 Ω at 20°C (68°F)
        for Cold Area
        2.0 to 2.4 Ω at 20°C (68°F)

        If the resistance is not as specified, replace the generator.

    2. A0137D4E01

      Inspect slip rings.


      1. Using vernier calipers, measure the slip ring diameter.

        Standard diameter
        16.1 to 16.3 mm (0.634 to 0.642 in.)
        Minimum diameter
        15.9 mm (0.626 in.)

        If the diameter is less than minimum, replace the generator.
