STARTER (for Cold Area) DISASSEMBLY


  1. REMOVE MAGNET STARTER SWITCH ASSEMBLY

      Remove the nut, and disconnect the lead wire from the magnet starter switch.

      Using a "torx" socket wrench (T25), remove the 3 screws holding the magnet starter switch from the starter drive housing.

    3. Remove the magnet starter switch.

    4. Remove the return spring.

      Remove the plunger from the pinion drive lever.

  2. REMOVE STARTER YOKE ASSEMBLY

      Remove the 2 bolts and starter yoke from the starter drive housing.

    2. A0138S5

      Remove the plate from the planet carrier.

  3. REMOVE STARTER BRUSH HOLDER ASSEMBLY


    1. A01377R

      Hold the starter yoke in a vise with aluminum plates in between.

      Note

      Do not overtighten the vise.

    2. Remove the 2 screws and starter commutator end frame cover from the starter commutator end frame.

      Remove the slotted washer.

    4. A0138ADE01

      Remove the washer.

    5. Remove the starter commutator end frame from the starter yoke.

    6. A0138JSE02

      Remove the starter brush holder from the starter armature.

      Note

      Do not pull on the rubber.

  4. REMOVE STARTER ARMATURE ASSEMBLY

      Remove the starter armature from the starter yoke.

  5. REMOVE STARTER CLUTCH SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. A0135UY

      Remove the 3 planetary gears from the planet carrier.

    2. A0136LYE01

      Remove the starter center bearing clutch, pinion drive lever starter drive housing cover from the starter drive housing.

    3. A0137Q7E01

      Using a screwdriver, move the pinion stop collar to the starter clutch.

    4. A0135XPE01

      Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring.

    5. A0136GK

      Remove the starter clutch from the planet carrier shaft.

  6. REMOVE PLANET CARRIER SHAFT SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. A0135TJ

      Using 2 screwdrivers, remove the snap ring from the planet carrier shaft.

    2. Remove the washer from the planet carrier shaft.

    3. A0137P6E01

      Remove the planet carrier shaft from the planet carrier.
