STARTER (for Standard) DISASSEMBLY


  1. REMOVE MAGNET STARTER SWITCH ASSEMBLY

      Remove the nut, and disconnect the lead wire from the magnet starter switch.

    2. A0135UU

      Using a "torx" socket wrench (T20), remove the 2 screws holding the magnet starter switch from the starter drive housing.

    3. Remove the magnet starter switch.

    4. Remove the return spring magnet starter switch.

  2. REMOVE STARTER COMMUTATOR END FRAME ASSEMBLY

      Remove the 2 bolts and starter commutator end frame from the starter yoke.

  3. REMOVE STARTER BRUSH HOLDER ASSEMBLY

      Remove the starter brush holder plate from the starter brush holder.

    2. A0136KHE01

      Hold the starter yoke in a vise with aluminum plates in between.

      Note

      Do not overtighten the vise.

    3. Remove the 4 starter brush holder springs from the starter brush holder.

      Note

      Be careful not to allow the springs to fly out.

    4. A0138OLE01

      Put matchmarks on the starter brush holder and starter yoke.

    5. Remove the starter brush holder from the starter yoke.

  4. REMOVE STARTER YOKE ASSEMBLY

      Put matchmarks on the starter yoke and starter drive housing.

    2. Remove the starter yoke from the starter drive housing.

  5. REMOVE STARTER ARMATURE ASSEMBLY


    1. A0136QUE01

      Remove the starter armature, pinion drive lever and starter drive housing cover from the starter drive housing.

    2. Remove the washer from the starter drive housing.

  6. REMOVE STARTER CLUTCH SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Remove the bearing from the starter armature.

    2. A0137H0E01

      Using a snap ring expander, remove the snap ring.

    3. A0137K0E01

      Move the starter clutch toward the starter armature.

    4. A0136WPE01

      Align the protrusion of the starter clutch and the cutout of the starter armature and remove the starter clutch.
