| DTC Code | DTC Name |
|---|---|
| P0181 | Fuel Temperature Sensor Gradient Test |
| P0182 | Short to GND in Fuel Temperature Sensor Circuit |
| P0183 | Open or Short to B+ in Fuel Temperature Sensor Circuit |
DESCRIPTION
The fuel temperature sensor is mounted on the fuel return line. This sensor detects the fuel temperature and sends it to the ECM.
5 V is applied to the fuel temperature sensor.
When the fuel temperature is low, the resistance in the thermistor increases. When the fuel temperature is high, the resistance drops. The variations in the resistance are reflected as voltage change at the ECM. Based on this signal, the ECM corrects the injection flow.
| DTC No. | DTC Detection Condition | Trouble Area | Possible to Detect | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ignition Switch | Engine Run | |||
| P0181 | The output from the fuel temperature sensor suddenly changes for 1.5 sec. (3 trip detection logic) |
|
ON | ON |
| P0182 | The output voltage from the fuel temperature sensor is less than 0.1 V for 10 sec. or more. (3 trip detection logic) |
|
ON | ON |
| P0183 | The output voltage from the fuel temperature sensor is more than 4.92 V for 10 sec. or more. (3 trip detection logic) |
|
ON | ON |
FAIL-SAFE
| DTC No. | Trouble Area | Possible to Detect |
|---|---|---|
| P0181 | A value of 90°C (194°F) is used as the fuel temperature. | Normal condition is restored. |
| P0182 | A value of 90°C (194°F) is used as the fuel temperature. | Normal condition is restored. |
| P0183 | A value of 90°C (194°F) is used as the fuel temperature. | Normal condition is restored. |

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
Tech Tips
When DTC P0181, P0182 or P0183 is detected, check the fuel temperature by selecting the following menu items on the intelligent tester: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Fuel Temp.
If the ECM is replaced, variant coding (variant coding indicates the presence of vehicle accessory items, A/C, etc.) should always be performed Click here.
Before removing the ECM and the peripheral parts, wait at least 3 minute after turning the ignition switch off (If the cooling fan is operating, remove the ECM and the peripheral parts after the fan stops.).
PROCEDURE
READ VALUE OF INTELLIGENT TESTER (FUEL TEMPERATURE)
Warm up the engine.
Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and turn the intelligent tester on.
Clear the DTC Click here.
Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Fuel Temp.
Read the value.

Tech Tips
If there is an open circuit, the intelligent tester indicates -40°C (-40°F) or less.
If there is a short circuit to ground, the intelligent tester indicates more than 150°C (302°F).
