ECD SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:P0106, P0107, P0108

DTC Code DTC Name
P0106 Atmospheric Pressure Sensor Gradient Test
P0107 Short to GND in Atmospheric Pressure Sensor Circuit
P0108 Open or Short to B+ in Atmospheric Pressure Sensor Circuit

DESCRIPTION

The atmospheric pressure sensor is built into the ECM. The atmospheric pressure sensor is a piezo-element type sensor. If the vehicle is located at a higher elevation, a decrease in air density may cause the intake air volume of the engine to be reduced. As a result, black smoke may be emitted. The atmospheric pressure sensor detects the atmospheric pressure. Based on this signal, the ECM controls the fuel injection volume.

Also, the ECM adjusts the EGR Rate (Exhaust Gas Recycling Rate) according to the atmospheric pressure.

DTC No. DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area Possible to Detect
Ignition Switch Engine Run
P0106

The atmospheric pressure suddenly changes for 1.5 sec.

(3 trip detection logic)

  • Atmospheric pressure sensor

    (built into ECM)

ON ON
P0107

The output voltage from the atmospheric pressure sensor remains less than 2.22 V (less than 60 kPa (600 mbars, 8.7 psi)) for 10 sec. or more

(3 trip detection logic)

  • Atmospheric pressure sensor

    (built into ECM)

ON ON
P0108

The output voltage from the atmospheric pressure sensor remains more than 4.36 V (more than 107.5 kPa (1075 mbars, 15.6 psi)) for 10 sec. or more

FAIL-SAFE

DTC No. Fail-safe Operation Fail-safe Deactivation Condition
P0106 A value of 90 kPa (900 mbars, 13.1 psi) is used as the atmospheric pressure. Normal condition is restored.
P0107 A value of 90 kPa (900 mbars, 13.1 psi) is used as the atmospheric pressure. Normal condition is restored.
P0108 A value of 90 kPa (900 mbars, 13.1 psi) is used as the atmospheric pressure. Normal condition is restored.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Tech Tips

  • When DTC P0106, P0107 or P0108 is detected, check the atmospheric pressure by selecting the following menu items on the intelligent tester: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Atm Pressure.

  • If the ECM is replaced, variant coding (variant coding indicates the presence of vehicle accessory items, A/C, etc.) should always be performed Click here.

  • Before removing the ECM and the peripheral parts, wait at least 3 minute after turning the ignition switch off (If the cooling fan is operating, remove the ECM and the peripheral parts after the fan stops.).

PROCEDURE

  1. READ VALUE OF INTELLIGENT TESTER (ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE)

    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and turn the intelligent tester on.

    3. Clear the DTC Click here.

    4. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Atm Pressure.

    5. Read the value.
