ECD SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:P0532, P0533

DTC Code DTC Name
P0532 Open or Short to GND in Air Conditioning Pressure Sensor Circuit
P0533 Short to B+ in Air Conditioning Pressure Sensor Circuit

DESCRIPTION

The A/C pressure sensor sends the signals of A/C refrigerant pressure to the ECM. With this signal the ECM manage the cooling fan speed and A/C compressor operation.

DTC No. DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area Possible to Detect
Ignition Switch Engine Run
P0532 The output voltage from the A/C pressure sensor remains less than 0.15 V for 5 sec. or more.
  • A/C pressure sensor

  • A/C pressure sensor circuit

  • ECM

ON ON
P0533 The output voltage from the A/C pressure sensor remains less than 4.85 V for 5 sec. or more.
  • A/C pressure sensor

  • A/C pressure sensor circuit

  • ECM

ON ON

FAIL-SAFE

DTC No. Fail-safe Operation Fail-safe Deactivation Condition
P0532 Stops the A/C. Normal condition is restored.
P0533 Stops the A/C. Normal condition is restored.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Tech Tips

  • Do not use an ohmmeter to check the sensor because the sensor may be broken.

  • If the ECM is replaced, variant coding (variant coding indicates the presence of vehicle accessory items, A/C, etc.) should always be performed Click here.

  • Before removing the ECM and the peripheral parts, wait at least 3 minute after turning the ignition switch off (If the cooling fan is operating, remove the ECM and the peripheral parts after the fan stops.).

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (A/C PRESSURE SENSOR - ECM)

    1. A0136Q6E01

Disconnect the A35 (A36) ECM connector.

    2. Disconnect the A31 A/C pressure sensor connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for open)
      LHD
      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      5V (A35-22) - A/C pressure sensor (A31-3) Below 1 Ω

GND (A36-24) or A/C pressure sensor (A31-1) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    NG
    OK
  2. INSPECT ECM (VOLTAGE)

    1. A01382KE01

Disconnect the A31 A/C pressure sensor connector.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage
      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      A/C pressure sensor (A31-3) - Body ground 4.7 to 5.3 V

    NG
    OK
  3. INSPECT A/C PRESSURE SENSOR

    1. A0136XOE01

      Remove the A/C pressure sensor.

    2. Prepare 3 dry cell batteries (1.5 V) and 2 leads for connection of the batteries and the sensor.

    3. Connect the batteries in series.

    4. Connect the positive battery terminal to terminal 3 of the sensor, and the negative battery terminal to terminal 1.

    5. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
