SFI SYSTEM (w/o Electronic Throttle Control System), Diagnostic DTC:P0443

DTC Code DTC Name
P0443 Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

In order to reduce hydrocarbon (HC) emissions, evaporated fuel from the fuel tank is routed through the charcoal canister to the intake manifold for combustion in the cylinders. The ECM changes the duty signal to the EVAP VSV so that the intake of HC emissions is appropriate for the driving conditions (engine load, engine speed, vehicle speed, etc.) after the engine is warmed up.

DTC No. DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
P0443
  • Open or short in EVAP VSV circuit (3 trip detection logic)

  • Short between EVP1 circuit and power source circuit (3 trip detection logic)

  • Short between EVP1 and ground circuit (3 trip detection logic)

  • Open or short in EVAP VSV circuit

  • EVAP VSV

  • ECM

Tech Tips

DTC P0443 is detected if the engine is warmed up and then stopped, and restart it after 30 seconds and let it idle for 1 minute.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. INSPECT EVAP VSV (RESISTANCE)

    1. Disconnect the V6 EVAP VSV connector.

    2. Measure the resistance.

      Standard resistance
      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      1 - 2 26 to 30 Ω at 20°C (68°F)
    3. Reconnect the EVAP VSV connector.

    NG
    OK
  2. INSPECT TERMINAL VOLTAGE (EVAP VSV CONNECTOR)

    1. A013860E03

      Disconnect the EVAP VSV connector.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Measure the voltage between terminal 2 of the EVAP VSV connector and body ground.

      Standard voltage
      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      B11-2 - Body ground 9 to 14 V
    4. Reconnect the EVAP VSV connector.

    OK
    NG
  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - EVAP VSV)

    1. A0137VDE01

      Disconnect the B26 ECM connector.

    2. Disconnect the B11 EVAP VSV connector.

    3. Measure the resistance.

      Standard resistance (check for open)
      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      EVAP VSV (B11-1) - EVP1 (B26-27) Below 1 Ω
      Standard resistance (check for short)
      Tester Connection Specified Condition
EVAP VSV (B11-1) or EVP1 (B26-27) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the ECM connector.

    5. Reconnect the EVAP VSV connector.

    NG
    OK
  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ENGINE ROOM R/B - EVAP VSV)

    1. A013838E02

      Remove the engine room R/B.

    2. Remove the engine room R/B lower cover.

    3. Disconnect the B11 EVAP VSV connector.

    4. Measure the resistance.

      Standard resistance (check for open)
      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      EVAP VSV (B11-1) - Engine room R/B (5) Below 1 Ω
      Standard resistance (check for short)
      Tester Connection Specified Condition
EVAP VSV (B11-1) or Engine room R/B (5) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
    5. Reinstall the Engine room R/B.

    6. Reconnect the EVAP VSV connector.

    NG
    OK
