SFI SYSTEM (w/o Electronic Throttle Control System), Diagnostic DTC:P0327

DTC Code DTC Name
P0327 Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Low Input (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)

DESCRIPTION

The flat type knock sensor (non-resonant type) has a structure that can detect vibration in a wider band of frequency, from approximately 3 to 22 kHz, and has the following features:

DTC No. DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
P0327 Knock sensor output voltage is below normal range (3 trip detection logic)
  • Open or short in knock sensor circuit

  • Knock sensor

  • Knock sensor looseness

  • ECM

CAUTION:

Strictly observe traffic laws when performing the confirmation driving pattern.

Tech Tips

  • DTC P0327 is detected when the vehicle is driven at approximately 110 km/h (68 mph) for 1 minute or more (at an engine speed of 3200 rpm or more, with an engine load of 50.25% or more, and the transaxle gear selector lever in the 5th position) after warm-up.

  • If the ECM detects DTC P0327, it enters fail-safe mode in which the corrective retard angle value is set to the maximum value.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (KNOCK SENSOR - ECM)

    1. A0137XBE01

      Disconnect the ECM connectors.

    2. Disconnect the knock sensor connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B25-17 (KNK1) - B13-1 (Knock sensor) Always Below 1 Ω
      B25-18 (KNK2) - B13-2 (Knock sensor) Always Below 1 Ω
    4. Reconnect the ECM connectors.

    5. Reconnect the knock sensor connector.

  3. CONFIRM MALFUNCTION DISAPPEARS WHEN A NORMAL KNOCK SENSOR IS INSTALLED

    1. Change the knock sensor with a new one.

      1. Remove the knock sensor.

      2. Install the knock sensor.

      Torque:
      20 N*m  { 204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf }
    2. Perform the driving test.

      1. Drive the vehicle at an engine speed of 3200 rpm or more, with an engine load of 50% or more for 1 minute or more after warm-up.

        CAUTION:

Strictly observe the traffic laws when performing the confirmation driving pattern.

        Tech Tips

Example: The vehicle is driven at approximately 110 km/h (70 mph) at 5th position.

      2. Wait for approximately 10 minutes or more, and then start the engine.

    3. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / DTC / Pending.
