DESCRIPTION
The MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) is used to indicate vehicle malfunction detections by the ECM. By turning the ignition switch to ON, the power is supplied to the MIL circuit, and the ECM provides the circuit ground that illuminates the MIL.
Operation of the MIL should be checked visually:
When the ignition switch is first turned to ON, the MIL should be illuminated. If it remains OFF or ON, use the intelligent tester II and follow the procedure below to determine cause of the problem.

PROCEDURE
CHECK MIL CONDITION
Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the intelligent tester ON.
Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine and ECT/ DTC.
Check if DTCs have been stored. Note down if there are DTCs.
Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / DTC / Clear.
Clear DTC.
Check if the MIL goes off.

CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - COMBINATION METER)
Disconnect the B25 ECM connector.
Disconnect the combination meter connector.
Check if the MIL goes off.
