PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY INSPECTION

  1. INSPECT SPIDER BEARING

    1. A017D5M

Check the spider bearing axial play by turning the flange while holding the shaft tightly.

      Tech Tips

If necessary, replace the propeller with center bearing shaft assembly.

  2. INSPECT INTERMEDIATE SHAFT

    1. A017F4T

Using a dial indicator, inspect the runout of the intermediate shaft.

      Maximum runout
      0.4 mm (0.016 in.)

      Tech Tips

If the shaft runout exceeds the maximum, replace the propeller with center bearing shaft assembly.

    2. A017F1U

Using a dial indicator, inspect the runout of the front side of the intermediate shaft flange.

      Maximum runout
      0.1 mm (0.004 in.)

      Tech Tips

If the intermediate shaft flange runout exceeds the maximum, replace the propeller with center bearing shaft assembly.

    3. A017B85

Using a dial indicator, inspect the runout of the rear side of the intermediate shaft flange in the horizontal direction.

      Maximum runout
      0.1 mm (0.004 in.)

      Tech Tips

If the intermediate shaft flange runout exceeds the maximum, replace the propeller with center bearing shaft assembly.

    4. A017G6O

Using a dial indicator, inspect the runout of the rear side of the intermediate shaft flange in the vertical direction.

      Maximum runout
      0.1 mm (0.004 in.)

      Tech Tips

If the intermediate shaft flange runout exceeds the maximum, replace the propeller with center bearing shaft assembly.

  3. INSPECT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY

    1. A017B4A

Using a dial indicator, inspect the runout of the propeller shaft.

      Maximum runout
      0.4 mm (0.016 in.)

      Tech Tips

If the shaft runout exceeds the maximum, replace the propeller with center bearing shaft assembly.

  4. INSPECT NO. 2 CENTER SUPPORT BEARING ASSEMBLY

    1. A017EWT

Turn the bearing by hand while applying force in the rotation direction. Check that the bearing turns smoothly.

    2. Check that the seals are not cracked or damaged.

      Tech Tips

If the bearing is damaged, worn, or does not turn freely, replace it.

  5. INSPECT NO. 1 CENTER SUPPORT BEARING ASSEMBLY

    1. Inspect the No. 1 center support bearing assembly by following the same procedures as the No. 2 center support bearing assembly.

  6. INSPECT REAR PROPELLER SHAFT

    1. A017CZC

Using a dial indicator, inspect the runout of the rear propeller shaft.

      Maximum runout
      0.4 mm (0.016 in.)

      Tech Tips

If the shaft runout exceeds the maximum, replace the propeller with center bearing shaft assembly.
