SFI SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:P1660

DTC Code DTC Name
P1660 VSV for AICVS Circuit

DESCRIPTION

The air cleaner is equipped with 2 inlets, one of which is opened or closed by the air intake control valve. This system reduces intake noise and increases engine power at low to high engine speeds range.

When the engine is operating in the low-to-mid speed range, this control operates the air intake control valve to close one of the air cleaner inlets. When the engine speed is more than 3600 rpm and the opening angle of the throttle valve is more than 60°, the ECM activates the VSV and opens the air intake control valve.

The following conditions are met simultaneously for 0.5 seconds or more (2 trip detection logic):

  1. Voltage of terminal AICV of the ECM is low when the vacuum switching valve for air intake control valve is OFF

  2. The engine has been started

  • Open or short in air intake control valve circuit

  • Vacuum switching valve for air intake control vale

  • ECM

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Note

Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.

Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (CONTROL THE VSV FOR AICV)

    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. A017FE1E07

Turn the ignition switch on (IG) and turn the tester on.

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Activate the VSV for AICS.

    4. Check the operation of the vacuum switching valve for air intake control valve when the vacuum switching valve for air intake control valve is operated by the tester.

      OK
      Tester Operation Specified Condition
VSV is ON Air from port E flows out through port F
VSV is OFF Air from port E flows out through the air filter

    NG
    OK
  2. CHECK NO. 3 INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE FOR AIR INTAKE CONTROL VALVE)

    1. Inspect the vacuum switching valve for air intake control valve Click here.

    NG
    OK
  3. INSPECT TERMINAL VOLTAGE (VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE POWER SOURCE)

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE - ECM)

    1. Disconnect the vacuum switching valve for air intake control valve connector.

    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for open)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
