SFI SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:P0443

DTC Code DTC Name
P0443 Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit

DESCRIPTION

To reduce hydrocarbon emissions, evaporated fuel from the fuel tank is routed through the charcoal canister to the intake manifold for combustion in the cylinders.

The ECM changes the duty signal to the purge VSV so that the intake quantity of hydrocarbon emissions is appropriate for the driving conditions (engine load, engine speed, vehicle speed, etc.) after the engine is warmed up.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. Freeze frame data records the engine conditions when a malfunction is detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was running or stopped, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (PURGE VSV)

    1. A017B3EE01

Disconnect the vacuum hose from the purge VSV.

    2. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    3. Start the engine and turn the tester ON.

    4. Enter the following menus: Power train / Engine / Active Test / Activate the VSV for EVAP Control. Press the right or left button.

    5. Check if air is sucked into the port when operating the purge VSV using the intelligent tester.

      OK
      Tester Operation Specified Condition
VSV is ON Air is sucked
VSV is OFF No air sucked

    NG
    OK
  2. INSPECT TERMINAL VOLTAGE (PURGE VSV CONNECTOR)

    1. A017DJIE02

      Disconnect the purge VSV connector.

    2. Turn the ignition switch on (IG).

    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage
Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      1 - Body ground Ignition switch on (IG) 9 to 14 V
    4. Reconnect the purge VSV connector.

    NG
    OK
  3. INSPECT PURGE VSV (OPERATION)

    1. Inspect the purge VSV operation Click here.

    NG
    OK
  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - VSV FOR EVAP)

    1. A017G4TE03

      Disconnect the purge VSV connector.

    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for open)
      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      B29-2 (Purge VSV) - B1-34 (PRG) Below 1 Ω
      Standard resistance (Check for short)
      Tester Connection Specified Condition
B29-2 (Purge VSV) or B1-34 (PRG) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the ECM connector.

    5. Reconnect the purge VSV connector.

    NG
    OK
