AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM (for Automatic Air Conditioning System) PRECAUTION

  1. PRECAUTION FOR DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY CABLE

    Tech Tips

When disconnecting the battery negative (-) terminal, initialize the following systems after the terminal is reconnected:

  2. IGNITION SWITCH EXPRESSIONS

    Tech Tips

The type of ignition switch used on this model differs according to the specifications of the vehicle. The expressions listed in the table below are used in this section.

Expression Ignition Switch (position) Engine Switch (condition)
    Ignition Switch off LOCK Off
Ignition Switch on (IG) ON On (IG)
Ignition Switch on (ACC) ACC On (ACC)
    Engine Start START Start
  3. PRECAUTIONS WHEN USING INTELLIGENT TESTER

    1. When using the intelligent tester to troubleshoot the LIN communication line:

Connect the intelligent tester to the vehicle, and turn a courtesy light switch on and off at 1.5 second intervals until communication between the tester and vehicle begins.

    2. After all DTCs are cleared, check if the trouble occurs again 6 seconds after the ignition switch is turned on (IG).

  4. IF ANY OF FOLLOWING CONDITIONS ARE MET, KEEP ENGINE IDLING WITH A/C ON (ENGINE SPEED AT LESS THAN 2000 RPM) FOR AT LEAST 1 MINUTE:

    • Refrigerant gas has been refilled or A/C parts have been replaced.

    • A long time has elapsed since the engine was stopped.

    Note

If the engine speed exceeds 2000 rpm, the A/C compressor may be damaged.

  5. DO NOT HANDLE REFRIGERANT IN ENCLOSED AREAS OR NEAR OPEN FLAMES

  6. ALWAYS WEAR EYE PROTECTION

  7. BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET LIQUID REFRIGERANT IN YOUR EYES OR ON YOUR SKIN

    A017ECJ

If liquid refrigerant gets in your eyes or on your skin:

    1. Wash the area with lots of cold water.

      CAUTION:

Do not rub your eyes or skin.

    2. Apply clean petroleum jelly to the skin.

    3. Go immediately to a physician or hospital for professional treatment.

  8. NEVER HEAT CONTAINER OR EXPOSE IT TO OPEN FLAME

  9. BE CAREFUL NOT TO DROP CONTAINER OR SUBJECT IT TO PHYSICAL SHOCKS

  10. DO NOT OPERATE COMPRESSOR WITH INSUFFICIENT REFRIGERANT IN REFRIGERANT SYSTEM

    A017E7VE03

If there is not enough refrigerant in the refrigerant system, oil circulation will be insufficient and compressor burnout may occur. Necessary care should be taken to avoid this.

  11. DO NOT OPEN HIGH PRESSURE MANIFOLD VALVE WHILE COMPRESSOR IS OPERATING

Open and close only the low pressure valve. Opening and closing the high pressure valve could cause the charging cylinder to rupture.

  12. BE CAREFUL NOT TO OVERCHARGE SYSTEM WITH REFRIGERANT

If the refrigerant is overcharged, it causes problems such as insufficient cooling, poor fuel economy and engine overheating.

  13. DO NOT OPERATE ENGINE AND COMPRESSOR WITHOUT REFRIGERANT

    Note

This may damage the inside of the compressor.
