PARKING BRAKE CABLE REMOVAL


  1. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE CONTROL PEDAL ASSEMBLY

  2. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

      Remove the adjusting nut.

    2. A017DJV

      Remove the clip.

      Pull up the parking brake pedal claw and remove the No. 1 parking brake cable assembly.

  3. REMOVE REAR WHEEL

  4. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY (for 2WD)

      Remove the 2 bolts and separate the rear disc brake caliper assembly.

      Note

      Use wire or an equivalent tool to keep the brake caliper from hanging down by the flexible hose.

  5. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY (for 4WD)

      Remove the 2 bolts and separate the rear disc brake caliper assembly.

      Note

      Use wire or an equivalent tool to keep the brake caliper from hanging down by the flexible hose.

  6. REMOVE REAR DISC

      Put matchmarks on the rear disc and the axle hub.

    2. A017DGC

      Release the parking brake and remove the rear disc.

      Tech Tips

      If the disc cannot be removed easily, turn and press firmly the shoe adjuster until the wheel comes free.

  7. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING

      Remove the 2 No. 1 parking brake shoe return tension springs.

  8. SEPARATE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY

      Remove the No. 1 parking brake shoe hold down spring cup, parking brake shoe hold down spring and No. 2 parking brake shoe hold down spring cup, and separate the No. 1 parking brake shoe assembly from the backing plate.

  9. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE STRUT

      Remove the parking brake shoe strut and the parking brake shoe strut compression spring.

  10. SEPARATE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY

      Remove the No. 1 parking brake shoe hold down spring cup, parking brake shoe hold down spring and No. 2 parking brake shoe hold down spring cup, and separate the No. 2 parking brake shoe assembly from the backing plate.

  11. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET

      Remove the parking brake shoe adjusting screw set.

  12. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY

      Separate the No. 2 parking brake shoe return tension spring and remove the No. 1 parking brake shoe assembly.

  13. REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING

      Remove the No. 2 parking brake shoe return tension spring from the No. 2 parking brake shoe assembly.

  14. REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY WITH PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER

      Using needle-nose pliers, separate the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly from the parking brake shoe lever as shown in the illustration.

      Note

      Be careful not to damage the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly.

  15. REMOVE NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

      Remove the 2 bolts and separate the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly from the backing plate.

    2. Remove the 2 bolts, 4 nuts, and the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly.

  16. REMOVE CABLE SUPPORT BRACKET


    1. Remove the cable support bracket from the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly.

  17. REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

      Remove the 2 bolts and separate the No. 2 parking brake cable assembly from the backing plate.

    2. Remove the 2 bolts, 5 nuts, and the No. 2 parking brake cable assembly.

  18. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE CABLE SUPPORT BRACKET


    1. Remove the parking brake cable support bracket from the No. 2 parking brake cable assembly.

  19. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE CABLE SUPPORT BRACKET


    1. Remove the No. 1 parking brake cable support bracket from the No. 2 parking brake cable assembly.
