Tech Tips
Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.
The following procedure is for the LH side.
If the sensor rotor needs to be replaced, replace it together with the rear axle hub and bearing assembly with rear speed sensor.
DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
Note
When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected. Click here
REMOVE REAR WHEEL
SEPARATE REAR SPEED SENSOR WIRE
Using a screwdriver, disconnect the connector from the rear speed sensor.
Note
Be careful not to damage the rear speed sensor.
SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY
Remove the 2 bolts and separate the rear disc brake caliper assembly.
Note
Use wire or an equivalent tool to keep the brake caliper from hanging down by the flexible hose.
REMOVE REAR DISC
Put matchmarks on the rear disc and the axle hub.
Release the parking brake and remove the rear disc.
Tech Tips
If the disc cannot be removed easily, turn and press firmly the shoe adjuster until the wheel comes free.
REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY WITH REAR SPEED SENSOR
Remove the 4 bolts and the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.
Note
Use wire or an equivalent tool to keep the parking brake assembly from hanging down by the parking brake cable assembly.
REMOVE REAR SPEED SENSOR
Install the 3 hub nuts and mount the rear axle hub and bearing assembly in a vise using aluminum plates.
Note
Replace the rear axle hub and bearing assembly if it is dropped or receives a strong shock.
Using a pin punch and hammer, drive out the 2 pins and remove the 2 attachments from SST.
Using SST and 2 bolts (diameter: 12 mm, pitch: 1.5 mm), remove the rear speed sensor from the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.
Note
Keep the rear speed sensor away from magnets.
Pull the rear speed sensor off straight, taking care not to allow it to be in contact with the rear speed sensor rotor.
If the rear speed sensor rotor is damaged or deformed, replace the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.
Do not scratch the contact surface between the rear axle hub and bearing assembly and the rear speed sensor.
Prevent foreign matter from attaching to the rear speed sensor rotor or tip.
Tech Tips
If the sensor rotor needs to be replaced, replace it together with the rear axle hub and bearing assembly with rear speed sensor.
