FIX STEERING WHEEL POSITION
Fix the steering wheel with the seat belt in order to prevent rotation.
Tech Tips
This operation is useful to prevent damage to the spiral cable.
DRAIN POWER STEERING FLUID
REMOVE FRONT WHEELS
REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER NO.1
Remove the 4 bolts and No. 1 engine under cover.
SEPARATE STEERING TORQUE SHAFT ASSEMBLY
Loosen bolt (A) and remove bolt (B), then slide the steering torque shaft assembly.
Tech Tips
Do not remove bolt (A).
Do not disconnect the steering torque shaft assembly from the power steering link assembly.
Put matchmarks on the steering torque shaft assembly and the power steering link assembly.
Separate the steering torque shaft assembly from the power steering link assembly.
SEPARATE TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
Remove the cotter pin and the nut.
Using SST, separate the tie rod end sub-assembly LH from the steering knuckle.
Note
Hang SST with a string, or other means, to prevent it from falling.
Do not damage the front disc brake dust cover.
Do not damage the ball joint dust cover.
Do not damage the steering knuckle.
SEPARATE TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY RH
Tech Tips
Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.
SEPARATE PRESSURE FEED TUBE ASSEMBLY
Using pliers, grip the claws of the clip and separate the pressure feed tube assembly (return tube side) from the power steering link assembly.
Using a union nut wrench, remove the steering gear outlet return tube.
Using a union nut wrench, separate the pressure feed tube assembly (pressure tube side) from the power steering link assembly.
Remove the 2 bolts and the pressure feed tube clamp from the power steering link assembly.
REMOVE POWER STEERING LINK ASSEMBLY
Remove the 4 bolts and the power steering link assembly.
Put matchmarks on the steering rack housing bracket No.2, steering rack housing grommet No.2 and the power steering link assembly.
Remove the steering rack housing bracket No.2, and the steering rack housing grommet No.2 from the power steering link assembly.
