INSTALL INPUT SHAFT OIL SEAL RING
Coat the 3 oil seal rings with ATF.
Squeeze the ends of the 3 oil seal rings together with the wrap distance 8 mm (0.31 in.) or less, and then install them to the forward clutch drum groove.
Note
Do not over-spread the ring ends.
Tech Tips
After installing the oil seal rings, check that they rotate smoothly.
INSTALL FORWARD CLUTCH PISTON O-RING
Coat 2 new O-rings with ATF and install them on the forward clutch piston.
INSTALL FRONT CLUTCH PISTON SUB-ASSEMBLY
Coat new O-ring with ATF, and install them on the forward clutch piston with a screwdriver.
Being careful not to damage the O-rings, and press the clutch piston into the forward clutch drum with both hands.
INSTALL FORWARD CLUTCH RETURN SPRING SUB-ASSEMBLY
Install the piston return spring.
Place SST on the spring retainer, and compress the return spring with a shop press.
Install the snap ring with SST.
Note
Be sure the end gap of the snap ring is not aligned with the cutout portion of the forward clutch drum.
INSTALL FORWARD MULTIPLE DISC CLUTCH CLUTCH DISC
Install the cushion plate with its rounded end down.
Install the 5 plates and discs.

Install the flange with the rounded edge facing downward.

There are 8 different thicknesses for the flange.

Using a screwdriver, install the snap ring.

INSPECT PISTON STROKE OF FORWARD CLUTCH
Using SST and a dial indicator, measure the forward clutch piston stroke while applying and releasing compressed air (392 to 785 kPa, 4.0 to 8.0 kgf/cm2, 57 to 114 psi).

If the piston stroke is outside the standard, inspect the discs.
