AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY (for 2KD-FTV) INSTALLATION


  1. INSTALL TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY


    1. A01BH6E

      Using vernier calipers, measure the dimension A between the transmission and the end of surface of drive plate.

    2. A01BHBWE02

      Aligning the matchmarks on the transmission case and torque converter assembly , engage the spline of the input shaft and turbine runner.

      Note

      Install the torque converter assembly to the input shaft in horizontally.

    3. A01BEA5E03

      Engage the spline of the stator shaft and stator while turning the torque converter assembly to a clockwise.

      Note


      • Turn the torque converter assembly approximately 180°.

      • Be sure not to damage the oil seal.

      • Install the torque converter assembly to the input shaft in horizontally.

    4. A01BEMSE01

      Turn the torque converter assembly to the clockwise and align the matchmarks on the torque converter assembly and gear into the slot on the torque converter assembly.

      Note

      Do not push on the torque converter assembly when aligning the matchmarks.

    5. A01BHNPE01

      Using calipers and straight edge , measure the dimension B shown in the illustration and check that B is greater than A measured in step (a).

      Standard
      Dimension B = A + 1 mm (0.04 in.) or more
  2. INSTALL BREATHER PLUG HOSE

      Install the breather plug hose to the automatic transmission assembly with the bolt.

      Torque:
      7.5 N*m  { 75 kgf*cm, 65 in.*lbf }
  3. INSTALL ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR ASSEMBLY REAR

      Install the engine mounting insulator assembly rear with the 4 bolts.

      Torque:
      29 N*m  { 296 kgf*cm, 21 ft.*lbf }
  4. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET NO.1


    1. A01BFFD

      Install the transmission control cable bracket No.1 to the automatic transmission assembly with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      28 N*m  { 286 kgf*cm, 21 ft.*lbf }
  5. INSTALL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY


    1. A01BCCVE01

      Install the automatic transmission assembly with the 5 bolts.

      Torque:
      71 N*m  { 724 kgf*cm, 52 ft.*lbf }

      Tech Tips

      Install the bolt so that the bracket is tighten as shown in the illustration.

  6. INSTALL ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR ASSEMBLY REAR


    1. A01BFS5

      Install the engine mounting insulator assembly rear with the bolt, nut and washer.

      Torque:
      98 N*m  { 999 kgf*cm, 72 ft.*lbf }

      Tech Tips

      Put a washer both side of the bolt and nut.

  7. INSTALL DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SETTING BOLT

      Turn the crankshaft pulley and install the 6 torque converter clutch setting bolts.

      Torque:
      41 N*m  { 420 kgf*cm, 30 ft.*lbf }

      Tech Tips

      First install the matchmarks bolt (Black painted).

      Install the drive plate cover to the automatic transmission assembly with the bolt.

      Torque:
      73 N*m  { 744 kgf*cm, 54 ft.*lbf }
  8. INSTALL STIFFENER PLATE RH(ATM)


    1. A01BAX5

      Install the stiffener plate RH with the 3 bolts.

      Torque:
      71 N*m  { 724 kgf*cm, 52 ft.*lbf }

      Tech Tips

      Install the bolt so that the bracket is tighten as shown in the illustration.

  9. INSTALL CYLINDER BLOCK INSULATOR NO.4

      Install the cylinder block insulator.

  10. INSTALL WIRE HARNESS

      Install the wire harness to the automatic transmission assembly with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      5.4 N*m  { 55 kgf*cm, 47 in.*lbf }
  11. INSTALL CONNECTOR


    1. w/ Speedometer Sensor:


      1. A01BH1GE01

        Connect the speedometer sensor connector.

    2. A01BAFZE02

      Connect the park/neutral switch connector and the temperature sensor connector.

    3. A01BDUEE01

      Connect the speed sensor connector (SP2) and the transmission wire connector.

    4. A01BB1LE01

      Connect the speed sensor connector (NCO).

  12. INSTALL OIL COOLER TUBE


    1. A01BH80

      Using a 17 mm union nut wrench, install the 2 oil cooler tubes to the automatic transmission assembly.

      Torque:
      34 N*m  { 347 kgf*cm, 25 ft.*lbf }

    2. Install the 3 oil cooler tube clamps with the 5 bolts.

      Torque:
      for Bolt A
      12 N*m  { 122 kgf*cm, 8 ft.*lbf }
      for Bolt B
      5.0 N*m  { 51 kgf*cm, 44 in.*lbf }
      for Bolt C
      71 N*m  { 724 kgf*cm, 52 ft.*lbf }

  13. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY


    1. A01BDE0E02

      Fix the transmission control cable assembly to the control cable bracket with a clip.

    2. Install the transmission control cable assembly to the control shaft lever with the nut.

      Torque:
      15 N*m  { 150 kgf*cm, 11 ft.*lbf }
  14. INSTALL TRANSMISSION OIL FILLER TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. A01BBQWE01

      Coat a new O-ring with ATF and install the oil filler tube.

    2. Install the oil filler tube with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      12 N*m  { 122 kgf*cm, 8 ft.*lbf }
  15. INSTALL STARTER ASSEMBLY


    1. A01BEF3E01

      Install the starter with the bolt and 2 nuts.

      Torque:
      68 N*m  { 693 kgf*cm, 50 ft.*lbf }
    2. A01BBCCE01

      Connect the wire harness to terminal 30 and install the nut.

      Torque:
      21 N*m  { 215 kgf*cm, 16 ft.*lbf }
    3. Close the terminal cap.

    4. Connect the terminal 50 connector to the starter assembly.

      for Wide Body:

      Install the wire ground cable with the bolt.

      Torque:
      25 N*m  { 250 kgf*cm, 18 ft.*lbf }
  16. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY FRONT


    1. Inspect the compression spring.


      1. A01BCDO

        Using vernier calipers, measure the free length of the compression springs.

        Minimum length
        40.5mm (1.594 in.)

        Tech Tips

        If the free length is less than the minimum, replace the compression spring.

    2. A01BD65E03

      Install the gasket.


      1. Fully insert a new gasket to the exhaust manifold by hand.

      2. Using a wooden block, uniformly strike the gasket so that the gasket and exhaust manifold are properly fit.

        Note


        • Be careful with the installation direction of the gasket.

        • Do not reuse the gasket.

        • Do not damage the gasket.

        • To ensure a proper seal, do not use the exhaust pipe assembly front to force the gasket onto the front exhaust manifold.

    3. Connect the exhaust pipe support, and install the exhaust pipe assembly front with the 4 bolts, 2 compression springs and 2 nuts.

      Torque:
      exhaust manifold side
      43 N*m  { 438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf }
      exhaust pipe assembly front side
      48 N*m  { 489 kgf*cm, 35 ft.*lbf }

      Note

      After installation, check that the clearance is almost same at any point between the flanges of the exhaust manifold and exhaust pipe assembly front.

  17. INSTALL PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY


    1. A01BGHTE01

      Remove the SST from the extension housing.

    2. Install the propeller shaft assembly in the extension housing.

    3. Align the matchmarks on the propeller shaft flange and differential flange.

    4. A01BHYPE01

      Install the propeller shaft assembly with the 4 nuts, 4 bolts and 4 washers.

      Torque:
      74 N*m  { 755 kgf*cm, 54 ft.*lbf }
  18. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY NO.2

    Torque:
    13 N*m  { 133 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf }
  19. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER NO.1

    Torque:
    13 N*m  { 133 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf }
  20. CONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE

  21. ADD AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID

  22. INSPECT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID

    Tech Tips

    Drive the vehicle so that the engine and transmission are at normal operating temperature.

    Fluid temperature
    70 to 80 °C (158 to 176 °F)

      Park the vehicle on a level surface and set the parking brake.

    2. With the engine idling and the brake pedal depressed, move shift the lever into all positions from P to L and return to the P position.

    3. Take out the dipstick and wipe it clean.

    4. Put it back all the way.

    5. Take it out again and check that the fluid level is within the HOT range.

      If the fluid level is below the HOT range, add new fluid and recheck the fluid level. If the fluid level exceeds the HOT range, drain the fluid once, add the proper amount of new fluid and recheck the fluid level.

  23. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION


    1. When shifting from P position only with ignition switch ON and depress the break pedal.

    2. Make sure that the shifting lever moves smoothly and can be moderately operated.

    3. When starting engine, make sure that the vehicle moves forward when shifting from N to D position and moves reward when shifting R position.

  24. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION

      Remove a clip, nut, and disconnect between the control shaft lever to transmission control cable assembly from the control shaft lever and transmission control cable bracket No.1.

    2. A01BBPPE05

      Turn the control shaft lever until stop to a clockwise direction, return the control shaft lever 2 notches to N position.

    3. A01BEYV

      Set the shift lever to N position while holding the shift lever lightly toward the R position side and install it.

      Torque:
      15 N*m  { 150 kgf*cm, 11 ft.*lbf }

      Note

      Tighten the nut with it closing up cranky.

    4. Inspect the operation condition and work.
