AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY (for 2KD-FTV) REMOVAL


  1. DISCONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE

  2. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL LEVEL GAUGE SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. A01BH56

      Remove the transmission oil level gauge sub-assembly from the transmission oil filler tube.

  3. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY NO.2

  4. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER NO.1

  5. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID


    1. A01BDMPE03

      Remove the drain plug and gasket and drain automatic transmission fluid.

    2. Install the drain plug with a new gasket.

      Torque:
      20 N*m  { 204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf }
  6. REMOVE PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY


    1. A01BHYPE01

      Put matchmarks on both flanges.

    2. Remove the 4 nuts, bolts and washers.

      Tech Tips

      If the flange connection is hard to separate, temporarily tighten one nut only and evenly tap the flange with a brass bar and hammer to separate the propeller shaft assembly from the differential companion flange.

    3. Remove the propeller shaft assembly.

      Insert SST in the transmission to prevent oil leakage.

      Note

      Do not damage the oil seal.


      1. Use the following SST for the automatic transmission

      2. Use the following SST for the manual transmission

  7. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY FRONT


    1. Remove the 4 bolts, 2 nuts and 2 compression springs. 2 gasket and exhaust pipe assembly front.

    2. Disconnect the exhaust pipe support, and remove the exhaust pipe assembly front and 2 gaskets.

  8. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY

      for Wide Body:

      Remove the bolt, then disconnect the ground cable.

    2. A01BBCCE01

      Open the terminal cap.

    3. Remove the nut and disconnect the wire harness from terminal 30.

    4. Disconnect the terminal 50 connector from the starter assembly.

    5. A01BEF3E01

      Remove the bolt and 2 nuts, then remove the starter.

  9. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL FILLER TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. A01BBQWE01

      Remove the 2 bolts transmission oil filler tube sub-assembly.

    2. Remove the O-ring from the oil filler tube sub-assembly.

  10. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY


    1. A01BDE0E02

      Remove the nut and disconnect transmission control cable assembly from the transmission control shaft lever assembly.

    2. Remove the clip and disconnect the transmission control cable assembly from the transmission control bracket.

  11. DISCONNECT OIL COOLER TUBE


    1. Remove the 5 bolts and disconnect the 3 oil cooler tube clamps.

      Using a 17 mm union nut wrench, disconnect the 2 oil cooler tubes from the automatic transmission assembly.

  12. DISCONNECT CONNECTOR


    1. A01BAFZE02

      Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector and temperature sensor connector.

    2. A01BDUEE01

      Disconnect the speed sensor connector (SP2) and transmission wire connector.

    3. A01BB1LE01

      Disconnect the speed sensor connector (NCO).

  13. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS


    1. A01BE7CE01

      Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the wire harness from the automatic transmission assembly.

  14. REMOVE CYLINDER BLOCK INSULATOR NO.4


    1. A01BH4VE01

      Remove the cylinder block insulator No.4.

  15. REMOVE STIFFENER PLATE RH(ATM)


    1. A01BAX5

      Remove the 3 bolts and stiffener plate RH.

  16. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SETTING BOLT


    1. A01BGOBE01

      Remove the bolt and drive plate cover from the automatic transmission assembly.

    2. A01BG9E

      Turn the crankshaft pulley and remove the 6 torque converter clutch setting bolts.

  17. SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY


    1. A01BA55

      Support the automatic transmission assembly with a transmission jack.

      Note

      Ensure that the jack is positioned on the bolt heads and not directly on the oil pan itself.

  18. DISCONNECT ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR ASSEMBLY REAR


    1. A01BFS5

      Remove the bolt, nut and washer and disconnect the engine mounting insulator assembly rear.

  19. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY


    1. A01BCCV

      Remove the 5 bolts and automatic transmission assembly.

  20. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET NO.1


    1. A01BFFD

      Remove the 2 bolts and transmission control cable bracket No.1 from the automatic transmission assembly.

  21. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR ASSEMBLY REAR


    1. A01BH4E

      Remove the 4 bolts and engine mounting insulator assembly rear from the automatic transmission assembly.

  22. REMOVE BREATHER PLUG HOSE


    1. A01BD35

      Remove the bolt and breather plug hose from the automatic transmission assembly.

  23. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY


    1. A01BHVZE01

      Put a matchmarks on the transmission case and the torque converter assembly.

    2. Remove the torque converter assembly from the automatic transmission assembly.

  24. INSPECT TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY

      Inspect the one-way clutch.


      1. Install the SST so that it fits in the notch of the converter hub and the outer race of the one-way clutch.

      2. Install the SST (Stopper) from the sleeve of torque converter assembly and engage serration of stater slight washer.

      3. Stand up the torque converter and turn the SST (tool ).

        Standard
        Check if it rotates smoothly when turned clockwise and locks up when turned counter clockwise.
    2. A01BEIEE01

      Determine the condition of the torque converter clutch assembly.


      1. If the inspection result of the torque converter clutch assembly meets the following item, replace the torque converter clutch.

        Malfunction item
        Any metallic sound is heard from the torque converter clutch during stall test or when the shift lever is in the N position.
        The one-way clutch is free or locked in both directions.
        Fine powder exceeding the sample limit is identified in ATF. (See the sample.)

        Tech Tips


        • The sample shows the auto fluid of approximately 0.25 liters (0.26 US qts, 0.22 lmp, qts) that is taken out from the removed torque converter clutch.

    3. Replace the ATF in the torque converter clutch.


      1. If the ATF is discolored and/or has a foul odor, completely stir the ATF in the torque converter clutch and drain it with the installation face up.

    4. A01BBJ5

      Clean and check the oil cooler and oil pipe line.


      1. If the torque converter clutch is inspected or exchange the ATF, is exchanged, clean the oil cooler and oil pipe line.

        Tech Tips


        • Spray compressed air of 196 kPa (2kgf/cm2, 28 psi) from the inlet hose.

        • If plenty of fine powders are identified in the ATF, add a new ATF using a bucket pump and clean it again.

      2. If the ATF is cloudy, inspect the oil cooler.
