REMOVE OIL PUMP RELIEF VALVE
Remove the plug, gasket, spring and relief valve from the timing gear case.
INSPECT OIL PUMP RELIEF VALVE
Coat the relief valve with engine oil and drop it into the relief valve hole.
Check that the relief valve falls in smoothly by its own weight.
If it does not, replace the relief valve.
If necessary, replace the timing gear case.
INSPECT OIL PUMP
Install the driven rotor into the timing gear case with the mark facing the cylinder block side.
Check the tip clearance.
Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the drive and driven rotor tips.

If the tip clearance is greater than the maximum, replace the timing gear case.
Check the body clearance.
Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the oil pump body and driven rotor.

If the body clearance is greater than the maximum, replace the timing gear case.
Check the side clearance.
Using a feeler gauge and precision straightedge, measure the clearance between the driven rotor and precision straightedge.

If the side clearance is greater than the maximum, replace the timing gear case.
INSTALL OIL PUMP RELIEF VALVE
Install the relief valve and spring into the timing gear case.
Install a new gasket and plug into the timing gear case.
