FUEL SYSTEM ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION


  1. CHECK FOR FUEL LEAKS


    1. Check that there are no fuel leaks anywhere on the fuel system after doing maintenance.

      Tech Tips

      When checking for fuel leaks, make sure that there is pressure in the fuel line.

  2. CHECK INJECTION OR SUPPLY PUMP ASSEMBLY


    1. Inspect the engine speed sensor.


      1. A01BD0L

        Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals.

        Resistance
        205 to 255 Ω at 20°C (69°F)

    2. Inspect the spill control valve.


      1. A01BGNV

        Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals.

        Resistance
        1 to 2 Ω at 20°C (69°F)

    3. Inspect the timing control valve.


      1. A01BCWWE01

        Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals.

        Resistance
        10 to 14 Ω at 20°C (69°F)

    4. Inspect the timing control valve solenoid operation.


      1. Connect the battery positive terminal to the timing control valve terminal +B.

      2. Connect the battery negative terminal to the timing control valve terminal TCV.

      3. Check that the solenoid makes a 'click' sound.

        Note


        • Do not apply voltage for more than 30 seconds to avoid burning out the timing control valve solenoid.

        • If repeating this step, wait until the solenoid coils become cool enough that the solenoid can be touched by hand.
