GENERAL
When the ultrasonic sensors detect any obstacles at the corners and rear of the vehicle, the system informs the driver of the distance between the sensors and the obstacles by sounding a buzzer.
FUNCTION OF COMPONENTS
| Components | Function |
|---|---|
| Clearance warning ECU | Receives signals from the ultrasonic sensors. Based on the received wave, the ECU calculates the approximate distance between the vehicle and obstacle, and sends a buzzer signal to the clearance warning buzzer. |
|
Supplies electrical power to the sensors and outputs system on/off signals to the clearance warning ECU. |
|
Sounds to inform the driver of the distance to the obstacle. |
|
Illuminates the location of the obstacle and the approximate distance between the vehicle and the obstacle, and turns the TOYOTA parking assist-sensor system on and off. |
| No. 1 ultrasonic sensor | The ultrasonic sensor (front corner, rear corner) sends and receives ultrasonic waves. |
| No. 2 ultrasonic sensor | The ultrasonic sensor (rear center) sends and receives ultrasonic waves. |
| Park/neutral position switch assembly*1 Back-up light switch assembly*2 |
Sends a signal that activates the TOYOTA parking assist-sensor system when the shift lever is moved to R. |

OPERATION EXPLANATION
The clearance warning ECU determines whether the TOYOTA parking assist-sensor system should be operated based on the clearance sonar main switch on/off status and the shift position.
When the system operates, the ECU transmits ultrasonic waves from the ultrasonic sensors. If these waves encounter an obstacle within the range of one or more of the sensors, the waves are reflected back to the sensors, which transmit them to the ECU. Based on this information, the ECU sends signals to the clearance warning buzzer. The approximate distance between the vehicle and the obstacle is then indicated, and the buzzer sounds.
