ECD SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:15

DTC Code DTC Name
15 Throttle Motor Circuit Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

Intake restrictor valve control motor is operated by the ECM and it opens and closes the intake restrictor valve.

The fully opening of the intake restrictor valve is detected by the fully open position switch which is mounted on the venturi.

If this DTC is stored, the ECM shuts down the power for the intake restrictor valve control motor.

DTC No. DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can be helpful in determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, whether the engine was warmed up or not, whether the air/fuel ratio was lean or rich, as well as other data recorded at the time of a malfunction.

PROCEDURE

  1. INSPECT FULLY OPENED SWITCH

    1. A01BH7Z

Disconnect the fully opened switch connector.

    2. Remove the venturi.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance
      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      1 - 2 (Intake restrictor valve is opened) Below 1 Ω
1 - 2 (Intake restrictor valve is closed) 10 kΩ or higher

      Tech Tips

The fully opened switch is integrated with the venturi. If the fully opened switch is replaced, the venturi must be replaced in whole.

    NG
    OK
  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (FULLY OPENED SWITCH - BODY GROUND, ECM - FULLY OPENED SWITCH)

    1. A01BFU7E01

Disconnect the fully opened switch connector.

    2. Disconnect the ECM D4 connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for open)
      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      (D63-1) - Body ground Below 1 Ω
      THOP (D4-15) - (D63-2) Below 1 Ω
      Standard resistance (Check for short)
      Tester Connection Specified Condition
THOP (D4-15) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    NG
    OK
  3. INSPECT ECM (INTAKE RESTRICTOR VALVE CONTROL MOTOR CIRCUIT)

    1. A01BFFBE01

During engine racing, measure the waveform according to the value(s) in the table below.

      OK
      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      LU+A (D2-10) - E01 (D2-13) Correct waveform shown
      LU-A (D2-9) - E01 (D2-13) Correct waveform shown
      LU+B (D2-8) - E01 (D2-13) Correct waveform shown
      LU-B (D2-7) - E01 (D2-13) Correct waveform shown

    NG
    OK
  4. INSPECT INTAKE RESTRICTOR VALVE CONTROL MOTOR

    1. A01BASB

Disconnect the intake restrictor valve control motor connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance
      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      1 - 2 18 to 22 Ω (20°C (68°F))
      2 - 3 18 to 22 Ω (20°C (68°F))
      4 - 5 18 to 22 Ω (20°C (68°F))
      5 - 6 18 to 22 Ω (20°C (68°F))

      Tech Tips

The intake restrictor valve control motor is integrated with the venturi. If the intake restrictor valve control motor is replaced, the venturi must be replaced in whole.

    NG
    OK
  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INTAKE RESTRICTOR VALVE CONTROL MOTOR - ECM)

    1. A01BF1IE01

Disconnect the intake restrictor valve control motor connector.

    2. Disconnect the ECM D2 connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for open)
      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      LU+A (D50-6) - LU+A (D2-10) Below 1 Ω
      LU-A (D50-4) - LU-A (D2-9) Below 1 Ω
      LU+B (D50-3) - LU+B (D2-8) Below 1 Ω
      LU-B (D50-1) - LU-B (D2-7) Below 1 Ω
