DTC Detection Drive Pattern DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
After warming up engine, idle engine for 20 seconds, and then maintain engine at 3000 rpm for 20 seconds

After the engine is warmed up, condition (a) continues for more than 10 seconds when idling (2 trip detection logic):

(a) Mass air flow meter output is higher than 4.4 V.

  • Air induction system

  • Mass air flow meter

Conditions (a) and (b) continue for more than 10 seconds with the engine speed at 1250 rpm or more (2 trip detection logic):

(a) VTA is higher than 0.1 V.

(b) Mass air flow meter output is below 0.7 V.

Tech Tips


  • If DTC P0101 is stored due to the mass air flow meter output voltage being too low, the ECU mistakenly determines that there is less air than the actual intake air amount and EGR is decreased to match the target EGR. As a result, the following symptom may appear:


    • Combustion noise worsens

  • If DTC P0101 is stored due to the MAF meter output voltage being too high, the ECU mistakenly determines that there is more air than the actual intake air amount and EGR is increased to match the target EGR. As a result, the following symptoms may appear:


    • Misfire

    • White smoke

    • Black smoke

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK OTHER DTC OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0101)


    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

    4. Read the DTCs.

      Result
      Result Proceed to
      P0101 and other DTCs are output A
      P0101 is output B

      Tech Tips

      If codes other than P0101 are output, perform troubleshooting for those DTCs first.

  2. CHECK AIR INDUCTION SYSTEM


    1. Check the air induction system for vacuum leakage Click here.

      OK
      No leakage from air induction system.

    NG

    REPAIR OR REPLACE AIR INDUCTION SYSTEM Click here

  3. REPLACE MASS AIR FLOW METER


    1. Replace the mass air flow meter Click here.

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Clear the DTCs Click here.

    3. Turn the ignition switch off.

    4. Start the engine.

    5. After warming up the engine, idle the engine for 20 seconds, and then maintain the engine at 3000 rpm for 20 seconds.

    6. Confirm that the DTC is not output again.

      Tech Tips

      Perform the following procedure using the GTS to determine whether or not the DTC judgment has been carried out.


      1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All Readiness.

      2. Input DTC P0101.

      3. Check that STATUS is NORMAL. If STATUS is INCOMPLETE or UNKNOWN, maintain the engine at 3000 rpm for 30 seconds, and then idle the engine for 5 minutes.
