INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Note

Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.

Tech Tips

This inspection procedure is based on the premise that the engine can crank normally. If the engine cannot crank normally, proceed to the problem symptoms table Click here.

PROCEDURE

  1. READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (STARTER SIGNAL)

    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the intelligent tester on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Starter Signal.

    5. Read the value.

      OK
      Ignition Switch Position Starter Signal
      ON OFF
      START ON

    NG
    OK
  2. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY

    1. Inspect the park/neutral position switch assembly Click here.

    NG
    OK
  3. REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY - ECM, IGNITION SWITCH)

    1. Disconnect the ignition switch connector.

    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      H25-1 (ST1) - D37-4 Always Below 1 Ω
      B9-12 (ST1) - D37-5 Always Below 1 Ω
      H25-1 (ST1) or D37-4 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      B9-12 (ST1) or D37-5 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG
    OK
  4. INSPECT IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY

    1. Inspect the ignition switch assembly Click here.

    NG
    OK
  5. INSPECT STARTER (ST) RELAY

    1. Inspect the starter (ST) relay Click here.

    NG
    OK
  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR

    1. Remove the starter (ST) relay from the instrument panel relay block.

    2. Disconnect the ignition switch connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
